I've been chipping away at that site, and now have the itch to do the GL. Too bad work gets in the way of a year-long cruise. :x

Oh, and getting the admiral to agree to go is an even bigger hurdle than having to support myself. :P

So far, the web site has been a great read. I should be moving snow at my in-laws' house, where the boat is stored under wraps for the winter, but it's far more enjoyable reading about doing the GL. And watching another Delos installment, too. In the comfort of my warm house.

I scrolled quickly through Captain John's site. It's very good, with lots of great info. Based on our Great Loop trip, I have very little to add. The big difference, to me, is that unlike more typical outings on the boat, whether day sails, weekend trips, or 2 week vacation cruises, taking a year or longer to do the Loop involves a true life style change. Planning, advance information, and preparation are invaluable, but ultimately, it comes down to the doing. It takes a little while to settle into a routine, and adjusting your thinking and actions to an extended life on the water. On a boat as small as a Mac, it gets cramped and crowded. With so much stowed on board, it's rarely handy or convenient to find that seldom used gizmo you just happen to need. At times it's a challenge to achieve comfort, however, when compared with life ashore, with it's traffic jams, junk mail and encounters with hassled and stressed people, serenity and contentment are, on balance, more easily within reach. Life becomes much simpler. Whether you're on a day sail or doing the Great Loop, you're still ending your cruise where you started out. It's what you experience while under way that is worth remembering. For a day by day description of our Loop experience, you're welcome to peruse our website at http://chinook.cecka.us.
