The black hulls are in VERY limited supply, well unless you can get the moulds and make your own

I think that we all liked this topic more that FrB... :D :D

I do believe we've been catphished like Boat said :x

But what mainly has been exposed is, our love for our Macs; our camaraderie, Espirit de Corps & willingness to share - even amongst ourselves a concept we All Believe In: The State of Mac! 8)

Our own Peculiar Freak Flag! :)

I think the most important issue is the boat condition: buy the boat in best condition that fits your budget and you'll be all right, wether it's an :macx: or an :macm: .

I think the :macx: is more beautiful, but that's just a personal opinion.

:macm: 's are much prettier...:) Especially white ones.... :D

Condition is the big one.....and hours/condition of the outboard. Beyond that, a big factor is what equipment comes with the boat. Is it working? Is it what you want/need? Is it almost out of date? Is it wired or connected in a silly/dangerous/sloppy manner? I did not change a thing on my :macm: for a year, and am very glad I did not. I have taken much more out of the boat than into it.

Just my 2 cents...

A very good point, check out behind the switch panels, its the hidden away places out of general view that you find the real quality of the boat. Everything may look real pretty from the outside but when you dig a bit you will find the poor quality and dangerous workmanship.

Wiring on the Macs was should I say "just adequate" out of the factory, add 10 years of poorly implemented upgrades and it can become unreliable and just down right dangerous.

My opinion the order to look at things
Outboard - Ask for servicing records / receipts (The most expensive item on the boat to repair / replace)
Trailer - Check for rust, tyres, check drawbar on original X trailers they have a thing for rusting out (expensive to repair / replace)
Sails - Old blown out original sails really are not worth much and can make the sailing adventure much less enjoyable
Equipment - Check the electronics work, no point in having a autopilot if it dont work and sometimes parts are not available for older ones if they break

All these MAJOR things will help you negotiate a better price, buy with your HEAD not YOUR HEART

Regardless :macx: / :macm: / :mac19: / :tat: / :tat26:
U,ll never go wrong with a Mac just make sure the Hull is in good condition if the motor is no good they r easily replaced just don,t pay for a sh-t motor

Guess I,ll need to go into covert mode now that the :macx: Shinobi Warrior,s will b chasin me down ! :D :D :D

I'm very happy with my :macx:

No buyers remorse etc. When I bought it in '06 the :macm: 's were too new to appreciate. Both boats represent the Best Hybrid Trailer Sailer from their respective time periods. Period :|

Boat - I would only hope that Roger would make a better boat with more time, technology & years of significant feedback.

I'm glad MacGregor & Tatto hasn't gotten into the habit of skimping & cutting back quality as time went on. Too many companies, particularly US companies do that & the consumer suffers :x

- Don't worry Mods, I'm not a back room congregator nor ruminator - just sayin'

Dilly Dilly :!:

P.S. It's funny that FrBill is long gone & we keep this topic going :D :D
