Yamaha outboard diesel

Post by Ixneigh » Thu May 31, 2018 8:02 am

I know they were made in that past. And can still be bought 2nd hand at an exhorbinant price. But I heard they may start producing them again. Would it be too heavy for a mac?

Yanmar D40 is available with a dry weight of 269 lbs. Weight of a honda BF-40 is 214 lbs.

I have a John Deere tractor with a Yanmar 3 cylinder diesel, and it is solid as a rock.
I would only be concerned about the noise.

Except for the old Dee-troit two-strokes. Like a beer can full of bumblebees. We have some old 12V71TA's (V12's with turbos) in cranes that sound like they're going to blow up from overspeed when they're idling. :D

Yanmar have had diesel outboards available for about 5 years, very heavy and very expensive, one would need to cover a whole lot of ground under motor to make the extra cost pay for itself

I think they are too heavy, and more suited to a professional rather than to a leisure use.
