Mac 26M Christmas Ornament

Postby Starscream » Fri Jan 11, 2019 3:42 pm

Just took down our Christmas tree a couple of days ago. We had three of these: https://www.hometraditions.com/sail_boat_ornament_p/953716.htm hanging on our tree.

Sons and I decided to make one ornament into a 26X and paint it like our boat:

The imagination can overcome the 26M shape and believe it's a 26X with some creative painting. the real thing:

We bought a couple of small containers of acrylic paint at walmart and mixed up the bottom-paint color to match, and used basic white and black to convert the 26M windows to a 26X. Project was successful so the other two ornaments are going to get the same treatment. Maybe we'll wrap the black windows around more instead of leaving the white between them.

My last trip approaching Two Harbors the wind was blowing so hard it tuned 'boat' into a MAC Dreidel!

That would seem a challenge. I believe it has 9 candles. Don't know of any 9-masted sailing craft. Seven is the largest I have read about---a seven masted schooner built near the end of the sailing merchant ship era in the 19th century. One skipper named the masts: fore, main, mizzen, jigger, kicker, spanker, and pusher. A later captain just called them one through seven. But, I digress. Been looking for a way to use that piece of trivia for ages! :D

Well..."in for a penny, in for a pound" here is the pic of the Thomas W. Lawson.
And a link for more info for those interested. Would loved to have seen this ship off my starboard bow just one time.
