Yeah,
I plugged my S1 in and calibrated the computer and the wheel turns by itself when I press the right buttons. My S1 wheel pilot install is a success. Will connect the NMEA from my Garmin GPS next.
Q1
Thanks again everybody. Will take pictures once everything is cleaned up. Next job ...replace damaged rudder .

According to my manual you have the motor wires crossed brown should be on the left & blue should be on the right :o

J,
My rudder sensor is mounted inverted compared to yours, so I needed to reverse the wires (according to the manual this is acceptable)....

Ah, thx

I also noticed some have their fluxgate facing aft instead of forward so do they also have to revese these wires ?

I had installed the fluxvalve facing the wrong way . It was not possible to finish the seatrials than, I doubt that changing the cable would have cured this.

rudder sonsor wires should be reversed if the sensor is upside down. this is what the manual says, and what i have in my setup and it's all good. the compass can be forward or backwards and wires should not be reversed. it is resolved using seatrial calibartion. when the setup is complete, perfomacne will not be hindred whether the compass faces fore or aft.

Don't reacall the arrows, etc, but I actually called Raymarine and they told me it would be OK after callibration, as was the case. The round portion of my fluxgate faces aft. The mounting plate is bolted to the wall of the head and the round part is up against the forward edge of the daggerboard trunk. That makes it backwards, I think??? Can't remember for sure, but bottom line is the heading readings are right on the money compared to a standard compass and GPS.

Leon,
if You say so, I must believe it :? however I was not able to finish the seatrial calibration as long as the fluxvalve was pointing to the stern. After rereading the manual I changed that and definishion of deviation was completed after two circles :) .

nmea connection uses 4 wires. in +/- and out +/- it is a good idea for the garmin to receive compass data from your pilot though not essential. you might need to look at your manual for color codes but basically connect the 2 wires from garmin out to pilot in. connect the two wires from garmin in to pilot out.

I think we discussed this back in June using the Garmin blue & black wires.

[I recently interfaced my 188C to the Raymarine X5 (basically the same as your S1 board).
Garmin blue wire (NMEA out) to Raymarine NMEA in +(up).
Garmin black wire (ground) to common ground and to Raymarine NMEA in -(Up).

I then "piggy backed" VHF & radar on top of the same Garmin 188C wires (blue & black).
They all work perfectly. 3 is the limit on the Garmin.]

Here are the schematics of the 2 units connected using each manufacturer's manual. This is another way to tag additional equipment (radar, etc.).

Hope this helps:
