Just in case you'd never seen it...

I was poking around under the boat and took a few pics of things I was checking out...thought it might be useful if anyone had never seen it before...hope this helps someone.
This is the underside of the boat where the water ballast plug goes...and the holes where the water goes in/out. Note that one of the holes will be mostly plugged by the guide rod. This is an area of very thick fiberglass.

This is a picture of the bottom part of the water ballast valve that goes up through the hull into the cabin under the steps... The rubber washer is very thick and relatively soft. The plate is a flat disk of stainless steel. The rubber washer is held in place by the short section of tube over the guide rod.

This is the top of the water ballast valve rod that sticks up into the cabin. It has a hole in it for a large ring-ding or clip to keep it from falling through the threaded "wing nut" up on top. The whole assembly (to the end of the all-thread) is about 17" long, and the shorter guide rod is somewhere in the 6-1/2" to 6-3/4" range.
