I was looking at "building" a dinghy at last months Strictly Sail. Chesapeake Light Craft has several alternatives like this pram but after seeing what they look like finished, I would have a hard time letting it get wet, especially one of the kayaks with the inlays.

We use a West Marine 9ft 4 places dingy .

For motor I have a 4hp (gas) but generally I use a electric motor form minnkotta 50lb

With the solar panel I have endless autonomy and use it for Balk Bass fishing on lakes.

We also use a Kayak just for the kids to have fun... Or to explore small rivers...

I is a 3 places Ocean Kayak. sit on top .

OK, I have to ask is that a picture of the river running through the Douro Valley? I just googled Douro Valley, looks like rather nice wine country with a broad river running through it. I did not see a lot of big lakes though.

It is in Lake Alqueva

The Lake is was recently build.



It is the largest artificial lake in Europe and one of the largest in the world.

It is a kind of national effort to stop the Sahara desert from crossing the Mediterranean.

It will not appear on the pictures until you make a big zoom because it is so recent.

Tourism is only beginning and in mi cruise I spent some days without seeing anyone...

One of these days I will post some pictures.

But it is already the greatest black bass fishing paradise in Europe. (They make there the world championship with a lot of Americans coming in)

Last sumer I made a cruise of 15 days there.

It is a real Mac paradise...

I use the inflatable West Marine inflatable sail, kayak, windsurfer. It is like a twin size bed mattres that comes to a point. I can throw things on it, like ice cooler, ect. from the boat and stays on. I can get on and off it pretty easy. I keep it on the bow of the boat, inflated. The raft sticks out about a foot on ether side of the Mac Gregor. It is easy to pull on the boat. stable in the water, and gets me +'s passenger to the shore. It is fun to tie the raft to boat when sailing on lake Michigan. I use a kayak paddle to move through the water. I can get pretty close to shore and this lets me get ashore with out getting wet.

Couple comments on this thread.

Locking up a tender is always an issue, although I have been blessed to only cruise in venues where no one locks there stuff up. At Cuttyhunk, if someone swipes something, you just walk around until you find it...

We use the Walker Bays for the kids at the CYC to get them from shore to mooring - these things are indestructible compared to the inflatables. You can also get sail kits for them and turn them into little sailing dinghys but that will set you back about 2 boat bucks

I got one of the hard plastic chined tenders from West Marine on special (Watertender 9.4 foot) for Cape tender duty -been real happy with it. I can put it on top of my VW by self (except this year Caitlin can reach it from the ground, so this summer will be a lot easier)
