Mac 26M or Beneteau Oceanis 40cc or Bavaria 40 mod 97

Hi all,

I have the chance to select one of these 3 boats to sail with it all this summer.

Which one i should select?

Mac 26M is a powerboat with Sail. it's like a Porsche Boxster, small, fast and it can sail and very affordable price to buy.

Beneteau Oceanis 40cc model 1997 is a real sail boat with a center cockpit

Bavaria 40 model 1993 is a very nice real sail boat.

Which one will you take if you were in my place and why, all are for the same price to rent.

-how are the boats rigged..for soloing, large crew
-if you are anchoring are they equiped for it
-captains experience level
-will you have support for any breakdowns

Well,
We will be 3 persons with no experience with One Captain of 3 years experience..
We will sail the coast of the Mediterranean sea.
Time between ports is around 5 to 8 hours maximum
Fully equipped. GPS, Radar, AutoPilot.
Everything can be managed from the cockpit.

We love sailing our Mac, but I wouldn't want to spend 5 to 8 hours afloat day after day in the heat of the Med on one. With three other people? No way.
I don't know what the wind, tide and current are like but all other things aside I'd want to be sure I had a boat strong enough to handle the worst for-seeable conditions.

Personally I'd go for the Beneteau Oceanis 40.

Interesting you bring up a Boxter and the Mac. I strangely own both however I have a 26X. I would more compare my 26X to a small RV on water. Cheap and comfortable but no sports car. And that is a good thing for what it is. I would pic the Beneteau for cruising if I didn't have to trailor it.

The Mac would be preferred if you has said Bahamas or Gulf Coast, or the US east coast where shallow water is the rule and millions of quiet places and nice beaches exist for playing or exploring.

HI, they are also offering them for sale: the Beneteau Oceanis 40 cc 1997 fully loaded with equipment, for 130,000$, and it's clean from first inspection by my friend. (He is a Captain).
And the Bavaria 40 model 1993, almost same equipment for 110,000. and clean also.

Which one is better, the normal back cockpit place or the center one and why, as you have experienced one, and what is the inconvenient of both?

Hi Capn' Phoenix,

Aft vs. Center cockpit - again depends on your preferences and needs.

The classic-aft cockpit typically has only the aft berth and storage under it, leaving quite a bit more room in the main cabin. This is really nice if you've got a group that likes to visit and spend time in the cabin. But - the deck doesn't seem very big, as you have no space behind the cockpit. Plus, the area forward of the cockpit really isn't very usable.

The center cockpit compromises the main cabin - sometimes splitting the area into two sections with hallway(s) around the cockpit above. The deck OTOH feels really spacious because you have all of the area behind the cockpit to sit/stand/stretch/etc...plus there's more room for diving gear and other fun stuff.

So will you be spending your quality time inside or outside? I would think the answer to that would be the tie-breaker. Good luck! They all sound great!

I haven't been pricing boats in the Med and I'll assume it is more expensive to purchase there (less inventory?). But, from what I've seen those are not great prices for boats of that size and age in salt water. If you need it to already be in the Med then again it could be a good price.

What do you think their price should be? and I will use them again in Med salt water.

Its hard not to say this judgementally, and to be fair I havent cruised in the Med, but based on what I have read I think this an inadequately experienced crew for a cruise of this length. If the three years of experience is three years of full time experience with professional instruction, then its a stretch. Less than this, then it is a red light

Thanks for your comment, The cruise will be maximum 5 miles away from the cost but all along the cost from Spain , France, Italy, Greece, turkey to Beirut

explain to me why? It's my first time and we will have the 3 years captain experience. we will stop on most Islands and they are more than 200 ones.
