Hey Guys and Gals

I have a '92 Mac 26. I've had it about a year. It came with a brand new Genoa (about a 150) and a very old main. My beautiful wife and two fantastic young kiddos (4 and 5 years old) like a smooth sail. So, I generally don't even raise the main or attach the boom. I just run that Genoa and furl/reef as needed for comfort.

It makes for an easy sail, but it isn't very challenging.

I have a brand new Hobie 16 Jib that is made to furl. I have a furler drum for it and I keep eyeing that deck eye that I use when I step my mast.

Does anyone know if a Hobie 16 Furler Jib can be used as a small jib or stay sail on a Mac 26? I'm thinking I could use that deck eye for the tack and install one of those Ronstan Mast Pad Eyes or a Mast Hound to attach the head to. I'd just run new jib sheets for the clew.

Any thoughts? Does the distance between that deck eye and mast allow for a Hobie 16 jib?

This would allow a smooth ride for them while allowing me to run two sails, instead of just a reefed/furled Genoa. So, they are still comfortable and I'm having a bit more fun, too.

Any thoughts?

Why not just put up a reefed main and furl out just enough Genny to balance the boat.??
