I called Greg today at GBS, (based at Casa Rio Marina) and he is willing to let cars/trailers park for the weekend out in his field at the marina (it's all mowed). He said $10 a night. Does that sound reasonable? I'm supposed to call him next week to set it up, so let me know if you're interested. As Rick mentioned, launching at the Casa Rio ramp is $15 for roundtrip. (in & out). Greg also has a hose on his building and there are several around the marina for rinsing boats and flushing motors.

I believe we are up to six boats.
Rick Westlake, Clarissa & Jim (Sea Dreamer & Uncle Jim [same boat]), Will on Wrudd 3 (on call that weekend, but he is coming), Me & the Admiral on Nice Aft, Steve on Caliente, & Tim on Temalloo.

Kevin is not certain if he can make it, but he is trying real hard. Darek, anything yet :?:

If anyone else is interested, let us know real soon :)

I am going to re-post what Rick has previously posted:
Report this postReply with quoteRhode River - "Half Moon Bay"
by Rick Westlake » Wed Jun 24, 2009 8:14 pm

Let's meet up in Half Moon Bay, on the Rhode River, at 11 AM Saturday, July 11th.

Latitude 38°52.6' N, Longitude 76°31.5' W ... maybe 31.4' W if the tide is out.

If you're trailering in to the Rhode River, Casa Rio Marina (4079 Cadle Creek Rd, Mayo, MD 21106) is convenient.

From US-50 or I-97, take State Route 665 "south" to SR-2, then SR-2 south 3.5 miles to SR-214 (Central Avenue). Turn left on SR-214 and go 4 miles to the post office on the right - just past the "Old Stein Inn" - and turn right there, on Carrs Wharf Road. 0.6 miles down Carrs Wharf Road, you have to turn left on Cadle Creek Road; Casa Rio Marina is 0.3 miles down Cadle Creek Road, on the left.

Talk on VHF channel 71.

PM me if you're definitely coming.

Arrgh, that's a shame, Ray. Why no boat?

I am still recovering from the flu (yes everyone, THAT flu), and my innards have not returned to normal, so there's just no way I can pull it off at this point. I was really hoping I could make it. *sigh*

The boat was not performing well at idle. It would be very rough, and shut off. A few times it shut off on me as I was backing into the slip. It always started quickly, but a few time it got hairy :o Last Thursday I decided it was time to have it looked at. When I was powering up to the trailer, it quit on me about twenty feet away. I'm glad I was aligned well. I just glided on :)

It turns out I needed carburetor work. Time wise, no big deal. I did not need Nice Aft for the fourth, we would spend the day on the dinghy zipping around Lake Nockamixon. I did tell the mechanic that the next weekend was a must. To make a longer story short, his supplier was giving him the run around by saying don't worry about the parts. It turns out the supplier did not have them. A very apologetic mechanic called to inform me today. He said the parts won't be in until next week.

I go on the boat about three times a week this time of year. I really appreciate owning a sailboat. It's a great lifestyle.

Don't want to butt in but I will, supplier hasn't heard about FedEx/UPS next day air? I ship aircraft passenger safety cards around the world in emergency cases and can get them there the next day. 10lb-40lb boxes. Carb parts couldn't weigh that much. Sorry, not trying to make you feel bad.

I am unable to Trailer my Mac from The Potomac to the Chesapeake at the moment, but I will be in the area on Sunday if anyone is looking for an extra hand during the day. Plus I would love to do some sailing and see everyone's Macgregors as mine is new and not fully modified yet.
Let me know and I can meet up with the crew wherever..

For me it's a moot point, but here is my take on it.

Saturday looks great, but Sunday the forecast is not bad until after 1 o'clock. That would still allow plenty of time to enjoy a small part of the day. I could not stay until the evening anyway. It would take me about an hour to get back to Sandy Point, and It takes me about one hour to de-rig the boat. Add to that the two hours and forty five minutes to get home. Leaving the flotilla about one PM will allow me to get home about 6PM. That works for me. I still have to go to work on Monday. The Admiral being an educator has the summer off, but I don't :!:

I have a slip near Half Moon Bay, I do not have to go through the setup routine, so I'll be going out to sail around a bit on Sat.

Re to anchoring out, Half Moon Bay is somewhat expossed to Southerly winds.

Saturday, if people do showup, I would suggest we anchor behind O'neill Island farther up the Rhode that night.

During the day we can enjoy the sandy shore in Half Moon Bay, float around a bit and drink our favorite beverage!

If you do launch your boat were you thinking of dinner at Pirate's Cove?

Sorry you have to miss the chance to get together with friends/fellow sailors. Not to belabor the point but it's in my personality to do so (I beg your forgiveness) I am in a business where planes don't fly without required (FAA) safety cards and even though it drives me up the wall I have at times gotten frantic calls from an airline near or far and they are grounded because somebody forgot to keep track of inventory.(hope they don't do that with fuel on board) :o My shop and local suppliers may not have on hand what is needed to do job (cardstock/ink/laminate) and at that point my supplier will contact his supplier/manufacturer and get what we need shipped direct to us. Bottom line, I hope you get your issue with your motor resolved ASAP so as to enjoy the summer weather, a day on the water and the respite we get from our workaday lives. Case in point, I just put in a 14 hour day yesterday and am looking forward to this weekend on the water. :D Still haven't switched out old jib for new genny but it won't keep me off the water :!: 8) Rob

I understand completely.

Even though I was disappointed, I was pleased to hear that my mechanic understands that business is tough right now, and that he needs to be dedicated to his sources, and not just jump around. He took a gamble that he (the mechanic) was being accurately told that the items were about to be shipped. He was not :!: In his apology to me, he said he could probably go on-line and get what he needed, but that he was giving his supplier the benefit of the doubt. I understand, and agree with that thinking. I told him that, along with the following: "When it comes to the final billing, keep in mind the inconvenience I was placed in." He said he will. I will also not be hesitant to let him know one way or the other my feelings when that bill is handed over. If he does what I think he should, I will tell him of my appreciation. If he does not, I will, in no uncertain terms, explain to him why I think he needs to sharpen his pencil, and reduce that bill.

I won't be able to get out on the Mac, but I still have that 9'6" Achilles with the 6HP four stroke. We can get out on a nearby lake.

Ray, I can understand as well sticking to your suppler and mechanic. As it turned out I worked on the wiring until 9:30 on Friday and had just gotten the lights to work :| Then on Saturday we were up and on the road early and I was again rewiring until 5pm. Seadreamer (aka the Admrial) was cleaning up behind me or cleaning the head. Once the holding tank had been cleaned we found a hole in the back corner that the PO had used duct tape on    Good thing we haven't used it. I still have about a full days work to do with rewiring the mast lights, the wiring to the pedistal and installing the new solar vent (Nicro) we picked up at WM while looking for a new head. So far close to 300 feet of new wire pulled.

To all the boats that did make it glade to here that a good time was had.

Rick, thanks for stopping by and lending the moral support.

Jim
