2) Put in the time and elbow grease to maintain it - there quite a few that have accomplished this and their boats look great. They also tend to live at higher latitudes where the sun isn't so problematic.

I put a coat of wax on the boat in the spring and cover it in the winter. I see no signs of fading after 3 years and at our altitude the sun is wicked. Everything fades in our sun and we have longer summer days.

I agree, you must maintain a boat and more so with a color. So far it's not been a problem with fading. But I agree, if you want lowest maintenance, buy a white one.

I have a 2006 Blue that I wax with blue tinted wax twice a year. It still looks good after the SE GA sun and salt water. It is hot in the summer and if I could do it all over again, I would probably go with white because the blue shows every mar and scratch. I normally moor port side too and you can easily tell it by looking at my boat hull. Just my $.02.

The admiral chose blue and it looks terrific. So many comments are made about it. However the blue does scuff up and as the 1st mate I do the buffing and polishing!

Blue absorbs UV rays much more than white. Oxidizes much quicker and needs more polishing in Southern latitude.
Shows imperfections much more. There is no difference in speed between the two colors.
Use a Polish such as Starbrite instead of wax and do it once a year in Latitudes North of 45N and twice a year in latitudes below that.

As Long as any color, thats offered, is solely dependant on a rather thin Gel Coat... and not a high end gel coat at that, and without glass substructure tinting as well... It will always be a high maintenance item... So Be it... if you love it..
Cross Link Automotive Coating ( they dont use paint anymore) stands up to Nature much better than any of our Gel Coats...But we dont slam and slide our cars along piers piling and docks ..all made of old, hard, wood and or concrete. If You dont like Maintenance go white ... albeit you'll still have to contend with those Big Black Gel Coat Stripes around all the windows.... and we have hundreds of post here trying to deal with that issue alone...
Two of my buddies have Corvettes.. One is Black on Black on Black the other has a Custom Midnight Blue that looks 6 feet deep.. BOTH are Beautiful... right after a couple hours of washing and waxing.. Buy what you like.. If after you buy a Boat a Car a Motorcycle...... You dont find yourself looking back at it EVERY TIME you walk away from it, with a smile on your face?

This question is particularly relative, as in Relativity.

For an observer, the light seen coming from an heading directly toward them is proportionally shifted to appear more blue. So in a way, you can have the best of both worlds by buying a white hull and speeding towards people.
(Note: once you past them and are speeding away, your boat will take on a redder hue due to redshift.)

This, of course, ignores the Cosmological redshift seen due to the expansion of the universe, as sufficiently distant white 's will show redshift corresponding to the rate of increase of their distance from your slower blue-hulled boat.

I bought a 2010 M back in May. I went in with my mind made up on a blue hull... Afte a serious discussion with the dealer - and a quick look at some of the other boats at the dock - I went with their recommendation to stick with the white hull. I guess it's like owning a black sports car... After a good wash and wax, there's nothing better looking out there. But keeping them clean and scratch-free is a real bear! Either way you go, you will love the M!!

WHITE is the safest color.

I like sailing at night, as well as anchoring overnight. An all-white boat is more visible at anchor and underway than the blue hull.

Even considering the topsides are white on a blue-hull, the flattest and most reflective surfaces are the high-freeboard, slab-sides of the Mac.

In a worst-case scenario, with your boat turtled or laid over in the water, the white hull would be more visible to rescue efforts by the Coast Guard etc.

Just like cars, white will be the longest lasting, least expensive, and look better with less maintenance.

Touch-up on scratches with the white hull are easier to match, maybe not for 100% exact white tint, but functionally, less noticable than off-blue repairs to the blue hull.
