26M TV Ad
I was watching CBS Sunday Morning today when an ad came on for the Alzheimers Association, the opening shot was a elderly couple (70 or 80) aboard their 26M (Blue). They pretty much pinned it as the man in the scene was unfurling the foresail and someone forgot that the mast raising system was still in place, I really don't think that they (producers) realized that when the photographer took the shot. Anyway, it was a nice photo.
Anybody else see this ad ?

Is this the ad? I found it on Youtube.

Maybe the "Old Timers" have Alzheimer's and forgot to remove the mast raising system.

Re: 26M TV Ad
Yes, I've seen that... gonna start doing the same thing this season, last season I started leaving the baby stays attached all the time. (one less thing to do) I just trailered my boat back from South Shore Marina, NJ yesterday. I had the motor tuned up, oil & lower case changed + new impeller installed. Also, new mast-head light, (1) spreader replaced, had the furling system fixed & rigged with 150 Genoa + I had them add pelican clips to the center life lines so I don't have to do the Mambo-Jambo when raising the mast to clear the spreaders. WOO_HOO !!!! Except for washing & waxing I'm ready to Dock & Roll !!Highlander wrote:Alot of people just leave them on strapped to the mast with a bungy cord

its factually correct that the alzhiemer patient should be sailing on the slower blue hull

The last time we were talking about this add, a couple of years or so ago, the debate was what color the hull of the M was!

Re: 26M TV Ad
Um, if people are leaving the mast raising system strapped to the mast underway, doesn't that:
a. interfere with the mast rotation system
b. defeat the advantage gained by the mast rotation system
???????

Not if it's just held on with a bungee cord. The force of the wind combined with the leverage of a long boom will over power the bungee. Think of jacking up your car, only with a jack handle that's reaalllllllllll long. You could do it with your pinky
Well, almost

Re: 26M TV Ad
Im more talking about the aerodynamics of it. The rotating mast was added to reduce the rotor (read: turbulance) caused by the mast. If you stap that thing in front of it, your causing more rotor, cancelling out the rotating mast

To me, leaving the the mast raising pole in place while sailing is like leaving your fenders over the side while sailing.
