I know safety and due concern are supremely important when lives are potentially at stake but c'mon we just don't get hassled by the Barney Fifes as seemingly described here, in the great white north! Any of the 5-0's dealing me a look over - and it's been minimal - all always play out like sargeant Preston. Helps if your Admiral gives the big cheesie though!

Oh, by the way we call them constables! (sic).

this thread got sidetracked.everyone agrees securing your boat to your trailer is the appropriate thing to do.the question by the original poster was his boat moving around on the trailer.my post was that tying down the boat is not the cure for his boat moving around on his ill fitting trailer, the boat should not move around at all, even if unsecured to trailer. I wasn't saying not to secure the boat for routine trailering and all appilcable safety concerns.

Ray,

I think that almost all threads get sidetracked after a page, or two. Its the nature of this forum.

OK Then I'll Bite ..
Chrisv.. Is your trailer a Mac Trailer? If so why are we not reading about EVERBODY having issues with these/ those trailers..?? When its only 1 or 10 out of a 1000 its Driver Error...
I admit it... This is my first large sailboat.. its my first 26 foot boat.. But I have been loading 16=19 foot ski boats since I was 12 y.o. and hauling them since I was 16y.o. Biggest issue I EVER saw was ......Hey buddy thats not on there straight... Nah Kid its fine or... its good enough..IMHO Not So... either its right or its wrong... IF its right it will haul fine "most often maybe not always" without any rear straps.. If its wrong? Straps are the only thing that will save it..

So Ray? Tell Me....How did you surmise its? The Wrong Trailer or its been fitted improperly? We dont have any of that information to go by..

I have no clue as to what brand trailer he's using, but like you i have decades of towing boats, and all manner of toys and equipment. One thing I know is that if your trailer fits your boat hull the way it should your boat will not migrate around on your trailer. As minimally supportive as the original Mac trailer is in it's original state it can be modified for not to much cash, to support your hull as well as any of the higher quality boat manufacturers provide for their boats. I myself added to my 26M trailer the extra axle, 30 foot of lengthwise bunking, and three full contour waterline to waterline crosswise bunking. It can take any paved road in az or sonora,MX at posted speed and not shift more then a small fraction of an inch.If your hull does migrate around on the trailer and you try to cure it with tie-downs and straps your going to accelerate stress cracking and gelcoat wear in localized areas on your hull

Our trailer and and Billy's (XX) trailer do the thing. Boat moves fo the right. Some of the problem is probably due to the fact that the roads are crowned to the right.
