Another interesting shower idea

Post by Harry van der Meer »

The March/April issue of Good Old Boat had an interesting article titled "Simplifying the Shower" page 80-81.

This idea (for small boats) was based on a 3 gallon water tank installed under the galley counter top. Feeding the tank is a PVC pipe connected to a deck-fill cap which was installed in the galley counter.

A simple pump is used to pump the water out of the tank to a hand shower in the head.

When ready to take a shower, boil a kettle of water on the stove, remove the filler cap and use a funnel to fill the tank with the hot water. Then use two kettles of cold water to get the right temperature. You are now ready to take the shower. The fill cap should be left ajar for venting when in use.

I think this idea has real possibilities for the Mac. I believe there is enough space behind the left side of the galley (in the X) to fit a 3 gallon tank.

Other postings have already discussed installing a sump in the floor of the head.

Any comments?

(BTW I love this "Good Old Boat" magazine.)

Gees, another shower idea. Yes, I understand, but, Crimany!

On the Mac, there's nothing wrong with cold water, a wash cloth, and a little soap. You'll survive, guaranteed.

I'll change my tune when my ol' lady kicks me out and I have to live aboard.

But, hey, a washcloth, a sprinkle of ol spice, change of socks, and then paddle in to some strange port to find "Big Suzie".

Down wind of her, she thinks I'm swell..

Hmmmm...well.... I guess I wanna hear from Peggy on that one, John... Don't know about her, but my first mate likes a nice warm shower (and prefers me that way too)!

"Here, here!" for more shower ideas... and sweeter-smelling sailors... (we love our Zodi cannister.)

I got one of these off ebay for less than $15 delivered. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 26740&rd=1 I fill up a 5 gallon black plastic jug before I leave the dock and in a couple hours I have a nice hot shower. The portable shower unit works great, has nice pressure, and if you use the 12v plug it will pump until you run out of water. Now I just need to figure out a way to rig up a shower in the head of a new M.
