My Last New Topic as a Mac Owner ( or see you other places)

Post by GaryMayo »

Today I sold my Mac 25. All gone. Delivered it 700 miles away.

Why? Short answer is a guy fell off of his horse

Hunh?? Yep. So I traded him my boat and trailer for his boat and trailer.

He was unable to step the mast on his Clipper Marine 32 Sloop. Boat and trailer weighs about ten thousand pounds. Pulls great. Behind my kenworth t2000. Don't know it's back there. Hits the slip Sunday

Thanks everyone for getting my feet wet. Made some friends, made some foes, but never from me to you. If ever in Lincoln NE. Look me up, we will go catch some wind.

O yes, I kept the locking cabin hatch. Used it one week on the slip with no break ins. Lol.

Bye all of you.

I just told the new owner about this place. Maybe you did not loose a boat, but gained a new owner. Nice guy. Has a masters sailing licence and has sailed the world. I see 174 views and only one reply, a smart a@@ reply. Maybe I did not so much sell a boat as sold out a resource. Lol.

Nebraska would not be a first choice for a great place to sail, but you get roots and you work with what you have. Let's see, I have a 24/7 full hook up slip on a gated concrete floating dock for 1500 a year on a lake close to my home and business, and a 32 foot sailboat with 35 foot mast above the waterline. Autopilot, gps, depth finder, hot and cold shower, AC, clear and black holding tanks, marine head, 10,000 pound rated trailer and a kenworth T2000 toter home to haul it anywhere. Sure Nebraska is my home, but I can and do reach out to most anywhere I feel like. Headed back now from the great lakes.

Wired weather. Bug splatters by the thousands on my windshield in mid march, in Wisconsin.

Some people need to travel a bit more, I guess. Just spent three trips to Lincoln easing scientists of the heavy burden of their research funds. Nice place and people for those of us who SWTM-MWTS

Yours for a fair tide, Gary Locksmith

Here is one for Paul Harvey and the rest of the story concept.

In dec I was contacted by a man that had a Clipper Marine Ketch he wanted to sell. Every email was a month between with an apology of poor health.

I brought home a Clipper Marine 32 last weekend and today I finalize the deal on the more rare and sought after 32 ketch version. Has two masts, five sails, six wheel factory made trailer with serge brakes and the whole ball of wax needing some love and attention is all mine.

What does one do with TWO 32 foot sailboats? His and hers? Spring and fall boats? There is a Moore ball still available so who knows. I would not be the first guy on the lake with two boats.

The ketch 32 version is my first choice of models, followed by the CM30 I was trying to buy but have not quite been able to do, followed by my third choice, the rather ugly functional CM32 sloop.

I figured I would never be lucky enough to get the model I really wanted, and I keep getting the run around on my second choice. My third choice fell in my lap last weekend and I grabbed it.

So now what? I splash the 32 Sloop tomorrow morning and sail her all spring while I restore the ketch
model to as close to 100% as I can swing, to splash her this summer.

I am off to southern ca to pick up my latest 32.

Moral of the story, be careful what you wish for.

Lock up the new boats with deadbolts???

Na, people only covet macgregors. Lol

Fair winds for tomorrow and enjoy playing with your new fleet this season 8)

Here are two boats pictured on the same slip, a week apart.

Only mod I did to my Mac 25 as I gave it to him was the head wall was removed at the v birth and the door removed. The mast support was majorly beefed up but still looks original. Mine had no metal between the catherdial bolts and the fiberglas. Does roger send them all out that way? We added fendar washers along with sealant to keep out future water.

We have spent hours and hours cleaning both boats. Why does someone sell a filthy boat? Slays me. Do people trade in filthy cars, or sell them on crags list with burger wrappers on the dash? We traded our Mac the way we would like to get something, clean and ready to sail.

There is about 30 hours of cleaning on the blue Clipper Marine in this photograph. She had a butt load of mold / mildew all over her deck and cockpit and the cabin smelled like grandmas bqcement. Elbo grease and an ozone machine to the rescue.

My Mac was the seond boat on the dock this year, and my CM was number four. Never before has anyone docked a boat at branched oak lake in Nebraska in mid march. Over 1000 record high temps all over the USA this week. Could be a very warm and dry year.

I will always have fond memories of my Mac 25. She was a wonderful sailboat, and a pleasure to be around. I have not sailed the Clipper Marines yet, so stay tuned for an update on this thread later. I am told they are moderately fast boats, but not as quick as the Mac 25. We will see.

Nice!

I am working to get mine in for this weekend or next. I could be in the water now if I had the time. Never been possible my my lifetime this time of year. Most years there are ice fishing shacks and pickup trucks on the lake at this time :)

This is ot and I am sure it will get the whole thread moved to sibera, but the 1000 record breaking temps this winter all over north America must mean something, and possibly something lasting and unsettling. I fear what looks great now, may be cooking heat and dry lake beds later on in the summer. I hope the weather changes back to what is thought of as normal. Aberrant long lasting weather changes would be a game changer. Hit the 80's again yesterday, in March, in Nebraska! Buds in trees, in March! Green grass everywhere. Our current weather model would have been a good episode for the x files tv show.

Back on topic, get that boat in the water in March just so you can say you did it! May never happen again, I hope!

Ok, I spoke too soon. I woke up to snow covering everything in Montreal. Maybe the earth is going through menopause. The last few weeks were a hot flash :)

The snow is a good thing as I see it. Normal is good.
