What is with all the holes in my centerboard?
I just removed my centerbaord on my 26X. I have one hole for hanger and one for the rope, but i dont know what the other 4 holes are for. One hole near the bottom is not drilled all the way though. Maybe its suppose to be that way or possible a barnacle made a home. Is the centerboard hollow like the rudders? I found one post that someone filled the bottom half with resin. I'm not sure if this would be to my benefit.

Yes hollow.
There are a couple drain holes, as I remember. I forget the exact location of them on the X boat.

The CB is hollow, and has to fill with water to deploy...ergo the holes ....your quest for centerboard mice is hereby ended.....there is no documented path to the original story that Roger imported the centrebaords from Switzerland, but I like to raise all possibilities in my Wikipedia entries...
Re: What is with all the holes in my centerboard?
I just removed the centerboard from my 26X. I did not worry about the holes, but I was very surprised that the centerboard hanger was completely corroded, and even the centerboard pin was deeplly corroded. The hanger is made of 2 SS straps with 1/2 in holes at the botton to receive the 1/2 in SS pin going across the centerboard: the corrosion was such that one of these 1/2 in holes was cut in half ( the bottom part was missing) so that the pin held just on one strap: I could have lost the centerboard while sailing! Next time you paint your centerboard, remove the hanger and check it carefully!

Tango ,
I did crack open the manual this morning. It did mention about the metal hanger parts being subjest to electrolysis. Not sure how to get rid.

Post the year of your boat in profile. There have been major changes in the MacX from 1995 to 1999.
I modified my 97 x rudders with solid resin 3 inches below pivit point and 8 inches at bottom.
This resulted in a very well balanced rudder as it reinforced the head solid and the bottom.
I also refiberglassed both ruders and Gelcoated them.
There never was a problem in the Original Rudders and Aluminum Brackets. It only required a quick release cam on both rudders.

When you have board out you must make new twice dimensioned hanger system . You should also fill bottom of board with lead and / or cement for better balance - old balanceweigths for carwheels are fine , the board also need some layers of wowen glass ...

Speaking for the 26X, the hanger system doesn't need re-dimensioning. It wont fit back in the hole most likely if you do. You might use a better quality stainless steel to stop rust etc, but then bending it to shape will leave a week point. Likewise, the board doesn't need more glass - its been designed to be plenty strong enough for its job, with a good margin for safety.
The hanger doesnt do much work, it doesnt have any weight to hold. All the pressure on the board is taken by the sides of the slot.
Weight in the bottom of the board is only good to make sure it drops quicker in a busy launching ramp, so you get steerage quicker. It will do nothing for sailing performance, and just make it heavier to lift.

Re: What is with all the holes in my centerboard?
I never had a problem with the board dropping. I just finished coating the inside of the truck area and coating the board with barrier coat I found a lot of barnicles up in there. I also had to repair the centerboard back edge. It looked like a school of Pirahanas had a snack. Thank you all for the good advice.
