Best Autopilot for 1996 26X

Post by Sparksvonrou »

So what is everyone's consensus what the best autopilot to look for (used) would be for the 1996 26X
I just bought a used 26X and always have a AP to assist with single handing.

Regards,
Sparks

Bought a second hand Raymarine Sportspilot on Ebay $200 odd dollars (now not a current model) works well and easy install but the new models are much much more expensive....and you dont even have to give it a beer...have now gone on the net and the new models are $2000 or there abouts....not really affordable or justifiable

Most people here use the Raymarine wheel pilots, such as the S1, X-5, etc.

Ok. The comments for the "human" pilot noted but requires too much maintenance!
Ok on the Wheel Pilots.
Anyone have one that is in good order for sale? (is that allowed to be asked here?) :?

Well if you are budget restricted. Use Raymarine Tiller autopilot on you swing arm. Down fall is you need to lift rod of arm to disconnect.
Ck archives for those who have done this.
I have used this system on Compac 19 and Potter 19 with excellent results.
Cost was about $500 in 2004.

This is the current model of the type most commonly used on a Mac:

User vkmaynard is building an autopilot from scratch, and has a working prototype now. You should search for his thread and see whether or not you'd be interested in his excellent work.
