Need Mast for my 26C

Post by Happyday »

I broke the mast on my 1989 MacGregor 26D sailboat this week and am looking for replacement options. Does anyone have a used 26 spar they are parting out or know of one? I live in New Brunswick, Canada on the East Coast.

Hello HappyDay and welcome to the forum. How did you break your mast ? There might be perhaps a possibility to fix it. Do you have any pictures ?

Best wishes from England's East Coast to the Maritimes. My wife grew up in NB !

Hello Finallysailing! Thanks for the response. The spar caught a tree branch while I was launching the boat. It bent at the spreaders and ultimately broke in two there. Where in NB is your wife from?

If it is a clear break then I wonder if the mast could be fixed by putting a "sleeve" inside. If you do need a new mast, I've read that you could also look for used catamaran masts, like the Hobie 18 or the Nacra 5.2 . Their profile seems to be very similar as is the length.

BTW, Lisa was born in Moncton, her family live in Dieppe. I love the maritime provinces ! Where are you based ?

I live about an hour and a half from Moncton...small world. Thanks for the suggestions...I knew about the cat masts. Unfortunately it's not a clean break, so I'm looking at a new replacement or maybe finding a used one somewhere close.
Many thanks again!

The D model here broke his mast last year and bought a new mast from MacGregor and just had to cut a foot or so off of it to make it the right lenght.

I broke my 26D mast last summer and got a replacement from Blue Water Yachts.

Happy Day -

It used to be you could ask the nearest dealer (for you Russell Marine in ME - not too far) to have a mast shipped with their next boat delivery.

Now that the CA factory is closed Im guessing that option is dead.

We do have Dwyer and Rig Rite down in CT but that is getting to be quite a drive.
