Re: 2014 Ram Laramie 3.0L Diesel 1/4 Mile/0-60?
Interesting find on Youtube the 3.0L Ecodiesel in a Top of the Line in Luxury edition Grand Cherokee doing a 0-60 tow test with a 5000lb plus boat. Then seeing how well it match up to the Ford Rapter and Chevy Silverado both with their individual versions their V-8 6.2L engines. Naturally both V-8s beat the V-6 Ecodiesel but neither one even comes close to the MPG of the Diesel. Now the match up I would like to see would be the Ford V-6 Ecoboost vs the Ram Ecodiesel. That I think would be a close match in most categories.

For those of you interested in buying a modern Diesel here is the best so far explanation of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) I have found. Gives good advice and explains things as they are now, which to me is reminiscent of the 1970s air pump foolhardy days. However there is new stuff coming out and hopefully soon to be aftermarket stuff the will fix this extreme left idiocy that is costing us MPG on modern diesels. Definitely just like those stupid air pump days the left is over complicating things again while going against their own goals of better MPG. How history always repeats itself for the ignorant.

This is a Caterpillar C18 interim Tier IV (in-line 6) rated 765 hp, the current replacement for the C18 Tier III (also 765 hp), which was a replacement for the Cat 3412 (v-12, rated 750 hp). It's running inside a building on Cat's campus, with the exhaust blowing into the space, loaded by a shaft to a water brake. Virtually no smell, no burning eyes, but obviously not something to do other than to demonstrate under controlled conditions (this was a Cat demo).
But the thing is twice the size of a 'normal' C18, with all that pollution equipment on and around it. And it's about twice the price of a Tier III C18. Bad for us (my work).

Yep all they did was shift the polution to somewhere else. You create just as much if not even more pollution in the manufacturing all those extra do-dads that rob efficiency and now have to make more fuel. Along with wasting valuable material in their creation that also makes more waste because of engines not lasting as long. Yep just like gun control just another feel good law that cost money and accomplishes nothing. You would think it would be simple for any side whether left, right, or middle to understand the better the MPG the less pollution you put in the air period. If you make something that cleans the exhaust while giving even better MPG then do it; if not keep it to yourself.Tomfoolery wrote:This is a Caterpillar C18 interim Tier IV (in-line 6) rated 765 hp, the current replacement for the C18 Tier III (also 765 hp), which was a replacement for the Cat 3412 (v-12, rated 750 hp). Ok for those of you interested in buying a modern diesel of any type below is a site for you to take control of your own vehicle that you are paying for and get better MPG. Currently there is nothing of value for the 3.0L Ecodiesel but give it time there will be.

Re: 2014 Ram Laramie 3.0L Diesel 1/4 Mile/0-60?
Well I finally received my truck after over 12 weeks of waiting. I just picked it up tonight. On the test drive, and the 20 plus mile ride home I punched at every stop sign and light and still got 18.3 MPG. Soon I will be taking it to Minnesota, then to Oklahoma, and back to Maryland. So will be able to get some good highway mile MPG readings. I will not be towing my Mac anywhere until mid to late July so 0-60/ ¼ mile tow times will have to wait. I will be towing a bass tracker boat in Minnesota about 400 miles with some hearty people consisting of my brothers and I along with camping and fishing equipment loading down the truck. This should be considered a overall light tow test for reference on MPG.
There are two things I do not like about this truck so far. One it truly is the quietest truck you can buy. This is not good because along with sitting up higher than any other brand stock you find yourself doing 80 MPH in a 50 MPH zone without even realizing it. Will have to use the cruise control as much as possible in the city with all of Washington DC and Maryland speed cameras. Second I got power side mirrors but since they are the tow mirrors they don’t power fold in to put the truck in my large garage with two average size doors. Will have to get in and out of the truck to fold the passenger side mirror going in and out of the garage when by myself. The regular power mirrors would fold in with power; well I guess that is the price of owning a Mac.

Quiet is a bad thing? (Also, 80mph is a bad thing?)
As for the mirrors, just put some foam "feelers" on the side of your mirrors and let the door opening do the folding for you

Re: 2014 Ram Laramie 3.0L Diesel 1/4 Mile/0-60?
Well so far the uniqueness of my 3.0L Diesel had gotten me out of one ticket. I have been setting the cylinder compression rings on my new truck by flooring it on every stoplight and stop sign when it turned green or it was my time to go. Well today I did in a three-lane road and did not see the police car on the 3rd lane over. Well first thing he said when he pulled me over is “what is this vehicle?” When I told him it was a new diesel he could not believe it because it practically made no sound when it went flying ahead of him. The only way he new I was speeding was he looked at his own speedometer and did a comparison check. So since there was no radar or god forbid another speed camera involved; plus being impressed by the trucks sound and gas mileage that I let him read on the dash he let me off with a warning.

Ahh, RS, way to go! And I see someone else knows how to drive a new engine during break-in. It's about the only time to not "RTFM" if you care about proper engine break-in!!! And your fuel mileage will steadily improve over the next few months.
