will get more pics of all the plumbing to go with the head.
new rigid 15 gallon freshwater tank, for the galley
new rigid 7 gallon saltwater tank for the head and sink, both with deck fills
and a 5 gallon holding tank for the head with mascerator pump, and thru hull( above the water line!!).

next , this week new galley upgrade.
then planned for the winter,
1. a hardshell dodger,
2.and a gaff cutter rig with top sail- and shortened mast( with carbon extension), so the entire rig can be left stowed,- no mast in the cockpit area,... and the boat launched and used in trawler mode- for quick and easy launch- rig the mast if needed( auxilliary engine mode!!). or rig before launch!!- been following Mastrebs rerig thread!!!

Nice work so far! :)
Have you done any simulation drawings of your Gaff/Cutter design?
How much mast shortening would have to be done to carry the extra sail area without increasing ballast?

Very nice work. All look very professional and clean.

The dual axle is so easy to do, even I did it. Get the serial number off the existing axle and call a dealer that sells their stuff and they will make you a copy of it.

Look forward to more of your mods.

I guess I'm still the lone naysayer on dual axles. I love the maneuverability of the single axle, and honestly I'm quite sure I've abused my trailer with the best of them :-). The stock axle is more than sufficient for even a laden boat.

I still am a believer in the dual axle. Just looking at the capacity, the stock trailer is barely capable. Load range D tires are 2150lbs each so by my calculations that approx 4300 total. The dry weight of the Mac is 2550 and trailer is 575. I don't think Macgregor calculates the 340lbs my motor weighs in the dry weight. So just adding 340lb motor, plus 24 gallons of fuel at 149lbs, the Mac is at 3614lbs without a single piece of gear onboard which is pushing the capacity of those tires too close for my comfort.
Add 10 gallons of water and cases of bottled water, fridge, tools, gear, dinghy and motor and my boat is heavy.

Dual axles haven't inhibited maneuverability on mine. My neighbor can squeeze his dual axle camper within an inch of his house while making the turn. It pivots in the middle of the two axles.

Perhaps it was poor tire pressure and my heavy boat, but my tires were worn unevenly. The boat bounced around a lot on that single axle. I hit a pothole and the tires bounced off the fenders ripping one of the side marker lights off. Since adding the second axle, the tow rig is much happier. My tow rig is an old Dodge truck, not a highly engineered Mercedes SUV. I've never read a report of anyone regretting adding the second axle or not seeing a noticeable difference afterwards. However, I have also read many have no problems at all with the single axle. So if you are happy as is, leave it. However, for those of us who experience too many white knuckle moments, it was well spent $1000.

I run 2500 lb. rated tires, and my boat is comparatively light. If your typical load is over 4300, you definitely need the 2nd axle.

thanks all. 8)

my motivation for the second axle is that a lot of our hauling is done on logging roads, and i really dont want a a rock slice/ blowout that may cause problems, and the dual axle will "bridge" potholes better and make for a smoother ride.

yup Crikey- done heaps of drawings and calcs- i am no boat designer- but i plan to build a tabernacle up to boom height (if i remember correctly, that was about 15 or 18"), then about a 21 foot mast, that will spill over the bow about 2 feet, which will match the bowsprit overhang, that should bring the mast back to the rear cabin bulkhead- settling on the mast crutch/boom gallows on top of the new fiberglass dodger.
i will build a removeable, tapered carbon mast extension about 10 feet long( gotta look at my drawings again)- 3 feet into the mast head, and 7' proud- that will be for the gaff spar halyard and the topsail. two front shrouds attach from the ali mast head- so head sails will be shorter/smaller- but thats ok. will probably fly the spinnaker from the carbon mast.
really want the main sail area to stay in the same size ballpark as the current main, but just a lower c of e and further aft, to balance the cutter rig, the top sail would bring the c of e up to where the current sloop c of e is- so i dont see a need for increase in ballast- dont want to do that.

my motivation for this, is that there are so many days i just want to go out after work, and chase salmon, but the 1 hour rig and de drig is too much- this way, i will be able to go out at the drop of a hat in trawler mode- but the sails will be there if i need them- and besides i really love the traditional rigs- and had a little bit of experience with them in a small way( dingys etc)- and i see this working quite well for my needs.- and with the top sail i am hoping to retain some better sailing ability!- guess we will just have to see :? :)
