I use “Nice Aft” because that's the name of my Mac. It seemed a natural choice. I chose “Nice Aft” for the boat in honor of my wife She smiles when I respond to inquiries about the name. For those who are prudish, I tell them it's for the Honda 50 on the tail.

If I get a bigger boat, it will be “Nicer Aft” Same wife By the way, October is our fortieth.

I've pretty much used a variation of "vatalon" or "vafalcon" since email has come into existence so vatalon is what I use on a regular basis.

I've taken it from my military background. I'm retired from the Army and I live in Virginia. So "VA" comes from Virginia. The "talon" part has a little more thought placed into it. Years ago, one of my most rewarding assignments was as a Rifle Platoon Leader in the 82nd Airborne Division. I was in the 2nd Battalion of the 2nd Brigade. The 2nd Brigade is known as the "Falcon" Brigade. Since falcons have talons I just put the two together and came up with my name!

To further play on the 82nd theme, my boat is named "All The Way"! In the airborne, it is a common greeting that when meeting a superior officer you would say All The Way - Sir and the response would be Airborne!

Growing up in Southern Maryland on the Patuxent River, catching and selling or steaming and eating the blue crab was/is a way of summer time life.
We had to contrast the normal "hard"crab from the molting "soft" crab ( a culinary delight in itself) in daily conversation.
A common saying evoked about the dim-witted antics of anyone was " He's as dumb as a hardcrab".

It usually fits me to a tee.

We're Clan Morrison... but my forefathers came to America in 1660, so I suppose it's pretty far back by now.

We're from the Taylor sept of the Cameron Clan....though Isaac and Jacob came over in 1703 so we're distant relatives now too.

(Though I did wear the family tartan when I got married)

I chose this username back when the intertubes were fresh and young. It is the only username I ever use online. I wanted to not have to remember different usernames, and I wanted one I would not find already taken, so I chose a Dave whose cardinality would not be plausibly reached in my lifetime.

The significance of the numbers is derived from the Holy Triad of Narcissism: Life, Sex and Me. (I was a younger lad back then)
42: is the answer to the question of Life the Universe and Everything.
69: because 69
13: my birthday.

Its our 50th in December but the Admiral has ruled out a bigger Boat - Probably a world cruise!

I chose Y.B.NORMAL after the name of our Mac.

I always liked the song "The Sloop John B." and was working off that when naming our Mac.
It somehow evolved into " The Sloop Y.B." then Y.B.NORMAL -- It's not a normal powerboat, it's not a normal sailboat, and neither sides of our families are normal - we're ALL crazy!

I wanted to name it Cou-Lin Breeze II after my family's old 22' Chris-Craft, but the Admiral said we needed to go with an original name (Guess I showed HER!) Cou-Lin Breeze was formed from a boat partnership my parents and another couple had (Counihan, Linquist).

We'll be married 33 years in January, which PROVES SHE'S CRAZY.

I use fujimo on the other forums, I mistakenly thought that this group of people were polite and well behaved, and that I should rather use my real name.
as fujimo is a term we used in the south African army it means.. "F U jack I'm movin out"
other times we would just say- "lets pi$$ on the fire and call the dogs"-(but doenst really work as an acronym.) it all meant time to move out- usually poste haste!

miss those days- makes me harken back- the chaos, the excitement, the adrenaline, the incredible sadness!

Hey, I certainly give her the credit most of the time as one is expected to do to a person of her rank but I suspect that her horror of anything technological and my being reasonably handy has a bit to it. Having said that we both have a terrific sense of humour and that has helped us enormously when the seas get rough and the mountains steep. We just keep on goin!

Interesting.

When my dad died (he was ex-military, Corps of Engineers), they sent a full-bird colonel to play the pipes for him at the graveside. Very moving.
