We just finished sewing up a complete set of new cabin cushions for our 26X. We made new cushion covers for all the seats and backs, as well as for the two vee berth pads, the battery box cushion, and a new key cushion for the spacer which allows setup of a full sized vee berth. We ordered 8 yards of sunbrella upholstery fabric for the cushion tops, boxing, and zipper plaques. We ordered extra, since we plan on making some organizers with the remnant. As I recall, the project required slightly over 5 yards. We used nougahide vinyl material for the seat and back cushion bottoms (3 yards), and used a breathable material (cushion underliner) from Sailrite for the vee berth cushions (another 3 yards). All fabric was 54" wide. We reused some of the old original zippers, but replaced all which had mildew stains. I had originally planned on using the old cushions to make patterns for the new ones, but abandoned that plan after watching the Sailrite video on how to make cushions. Instead, I used brown paper and made pattern pieces, cut to precisely fit the boat. I highly recommend viewing the Sailrite video before tackling this project. They give detailed instructions, well illustrated. Once you make your paper pattern pieces, Sailrite has a yardage calculator which lets you enter the shapes and dimensions. It will work out the most efficient use of fabric and give you a cutting plan. I did it the hard way, on graph paper, but I'm sure their calculator would work well. We purchased the Sailrite video before starting out, as it was handy to play as we worked on the project. We also bought one of their hot knives for cutting out the sunbrella, and that tool was invaluable in cutting out fabric. The hot knife seals the edge as it cuts, so you don't have to cope with raveling edges. We ordered quality foam through The Friendly Foam Shop in Seattle. Firmer foam for the seats, less firm for the backs. We also ordered a 2" dense memory foam topper for the vee berth bed. It was a great amount of work, but the new cushions came out beautiful. I just picked them up today (we had Friendly Foam cut the foam out and stuff it into the covers), so I don't have any pictures yet. I'll try to post some pics of the interior, with the cushions in place, as soon as I'm able.
