Remember the $9000 '06 M?

Post by Globalhobo »

It's time, friends!! We're going to attempt to "float our boat" on Saturday (with luck).

We have done a bunch of repair, some you can see, most you can't. We found that the more we tore into her, the more we realized how torn up she was. I think I've attached a couple of pictures of the daggerboard repair, mast foot bracket solution, new mast cap we welded up and a shot of the boat to show our new bottom paint. (I say I think because it's a jumble of bracketing down there that I don't know how to sort out).

We also made all new standing rigging, overhauled the motor completely, new jib, new furler drums, a TON of fiberglass repair, complete gut and rewire of electrical system, new mast foot, all new running rigging, and the list goes on (and will go on forever, I'm sure). These were just the things we felt we needed before getting her on the water. She still looks like Beverly Hill Billies on the inside. We have new rub rail and a ton of other things but we really want to sail, so screw it - we're going in. We'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for all the pointers....

New mast cap and mast step bracket look great! Both are on my list for this coming year too! Maybe you should manufacture some mast caps for sail (sale....pun intended)????

I would put a rubber stopper or some sort of cushioning on the top of the dagger board to stop it from smashing into the SS plate, cause it will. I had planned on adding some to the stock setup as it would hit the base of the mast when up-hauling sometimes and take chips out of the top.

Thanks! I wouldn't have thought of that before - will definitely add some cushion on the bottom side of the bracket before launching Saturday. I'll also turn the #12 bolts around so if the nut and lock washer fall off, I will be able to see it and not get a big surprise.

Don't think we'd find anyone to pay the kind of money it would take for us to sell multiples of those

I just put a figure-8 stopper knot in the CB retraction line to keep it from going up too far. Works great.

I'd like to find out how much the daggerboard moves around when lowered.
Nice repair job!

I,d say with that amount of damage the D/B hit something pretty solid "Ocean Debris" or was run aground while fully extended :o

Some guy,s on here added a 1/2" X 2ft plastic tube too the top rear 2ft of the D/B , basically slicing it down the middle & then epoxying it in place it in the mods section somewhere I,m thinkin of doing the same mod

J 8)
PS nice work by the way

We did that too, after seeing the mod section. Figured we may as well while we were rebuilding it anyway. You can see it off you blow up the db picture - the bottom paint hides it a bit. We also put some weatherstripping on both sides of the daggerboard truck, top and bottom, for cushion.

PS- thanks!
