West Marine Price Matching

Post by rsvpasap »

Blue Water Yachts is definitely my preferred place buy parts. They are wonderful to deal with, they understand the boats in exhaustive detail and I've spent more with them than I paid for my used 26x (Suzuki DF60A, enclosure with extra screen pieces, new forestay, etc., etc.) All of my experiences with Blue Water Yachts have been excellent. But they don't sell everything and sometimes you just have to shop at another store. I've been rolling my eyes and gasping for breath a lot less recently since I embraced "price matching" at West Marine. I did it again yesterday ... Davis 20 inch Shockles/linesnubber, $48.17 on Amazon, $69.00 at West Marine, so I paid $48.17 at my local West Marine store. Obviously, this can add up quickly ...

They tried this before a few years back and had to give it up. Can't see how they can do it with the overhead and taxes on individual stores vs. an internet store that doesn't have a lot of that,

Sometimes it come to just volume of sales and the fact that not everybody knows about the price matching policy so many pay the full shelf price for goods without questioning.

It never hurts to ask anywhere if they can do "a bit better" on the price, over the years I'm amazed at the discounts I have got just because I had enough cheek to ask the question about a better price. Many stores have a couple of price lists depending on who you are and if you have the gumption to ask for a discount, Sure some will say sorry that's the best we can do but there is plenty that will knock 5, 10 or even higher percentages off just because you asked.

The point is that if you never ask you will never receive, In fact I have one place that keeps insisting on giving me discounts without me asking and despite my constant insistence that I'm happy to pay their full price because their service is exceptional, go figure :D

I think if they don't do it, they wont be competitive enough to stay viable. I'm not sure about where anyone else is, but here in NY, slowly but surely the tax issue is getting much more level. I pay tax on anything from Amazon now.

Sorry wasn't clear. I was referring to property tax on all their buildings and the cost of owning and/or leasing them and store personal. They have a lot of operating expenses involved in providing walk in shopping. It is hard to provide that and also match internet shopping prices. I bought a lot from them when they did it before so hope it works out for them.

You can get the Lowe’s 10% “veterans discount”by asking for it if you buy enough stuff.

Couple of things Cheryl. I do buy a lot of items from BWY but I would really love to be able to buy a flush mount stove top from your site. Also if you don't offer the items anymore, why do you still show photos of them (i.e. flush mount stove) ? It would also be great if you would start offering replacement cushions or even custom cushions specifically designed for the Mac. Having to take measurements and hope for the best with another 3rd party seller seems unnecessary if BWY already has all the measurements and could special order and sell those items for a profit. I'm sure there are plenty of Mac Owners that need replacement cushions or optional cushions that were never purchased with the boat in the first place ( table top cushions for a 4th sleeping area comes to mind).
