Outhaul Suggestions
I'd browse the Mods section but it is offline.
Looking to upgrade my mainsail outhaul. Probably with a 2:1, but I'm open to suggestions.
(Mostly I want to get all that running rigging off the end of the boom.)

Re: Outhaul Suggestions
Couldn't find pic to show my outhauls. Placed internal sheave inside boom for 1:2 then added small block to sail clue for 4:1, small plastic V cleat for adjusting. Can adjust easily underway in most wind conditions.

Re: Outhaul Suggestions
I was wondering about the strength of the gear.
Do you use 3/8" line?
I wondered if a plastic V-cleat would be strong enough. After all, this is high tension rigging.

Re: Outhaul Suggestions
I believe 3/32 braided line, remember it's 4:1 so load is divided. I did a terrible jibe 2 years ago that bent both my boom and cabin top traveler the outhaul was fine.

Re: Outhaul Suggestions
Would anybody else agree that 3/32 is sufficient for an outhaul adjuster line?

Dang. Just when I thought I was ready to upgrade my outhaul.
I could combine it with a Cunningham, or a reefing system.
Decisions decisions...

Re: Outhaul Suggestions
The more I research this the more I want to do.
Frankly, I don't have much use for an outhaul - I never adjust it now. My real motivation was to get all that line and tackle off the end of the boom, which is getting quite busy, between topping lift and leach reefing line.
I think I should start a new thread.
