Youngest Solo to cross Atlantic

Post by Landlocked »

Check Out www.sailmike.com.

Michael Perham hopes to be the youngest person (age 14) ever to sail single handed across the Atlantic ocean.

He will be setting off from Gibraltar on the 18th November 2006 and expects to arrive in Antigua in approximately 4 weeks, 3500 miles later having achieved this world record challenge.

Michael's father Peter, will be shadowing in a second boat.

Not that I would suggest a 14 year old do this on their own but it doesn't seem like you can call it single-handed if Dad is there to bail you out in case of any problems.

Oh, I think it qualifies as long as no one else is on the boat. Many people single hand long distances while in a fleet or rally or race. Help is available if necessary and lots of of it is given over the radio net.
