Mac Gathering In Colorado

Post by AWKIII »

Hi all. Besides myself, I know Richard and Daniel have 26M's in the Denver area. Was thinking it would be great to have a Mac gathering at Chatfield Resevoir sometime this season. The facilities are wonderful and it would be a great opportunity to get together to eat, drink and possibly do some informal racing? Anyone interested? Leave it open to all Macs regardless of size.

Great! That makes four! Do you have a white or blue hull M? All three of us have blue ones so we will be fast! The marina is great. Has a restaraunt with bar and gas grills everywhere. Its like a small, floating city. Daniel and Richard are great guys. This could be a hoot.

I'm in of course. I'd like an opportunity to compare different rigs and tuning, and maybe some match races for comparison? I wonder if we need to move this to events and venues eventually??

Evenings after 5 pm are the best times to really sail in summer at Chatfield. The lake is crowded on weekends, and it's hard sometimes to get your boat in the water. I will discuss this with the park rangers and see what they have observed and report back.

Art,

Our boat's up at Granby now but your offer sounds like fun. I'll have to check with the Admiral since we have some commitments. We're pulling the boat to go to Lake of the Woods the first week in August and will be gone for a couple weeks. Maybe the weekend of 18 Aug might work for us before we put it back in Granby. If nothing else, I'll just drive down there and sail with someone else. I'll provide the beer!

Are we talking a weekend/overnight deal or just a day? If overnight is the plan, are there anchorages, moorings, slips?

Thanks,

It’s funny you should mention that, I was thinking just the other day it would be great if we could have a Colorado Mac’ers group head to the West coast, But local is cheaper. Sorry guys, I have to pass. I’m leaving next Friday 6/15 for the San Juan Islands, Washington for 3 ½ month long construction project. Sad part about this trip is, this is my first season I cannot take my boat. I have to take my tool trailer. I think I’ll have to buy a kayak. If you are interested in a great sailing lake were you don’t have to compete with speed boats or PWC racing around, you might want to consider Union reservoir. Harrison can vouch for that. Click here for information. Were ever you go, have fun. Hey, maybe we could have potluck gathering in the late Fall. I am returning at the end of September.

I put the post here to get some initial visibility. It should be moved at some point. I really do not have a preference where we go. The only reason I brought up Chatfield is because it is "home" and there seems to be so many Macs around. If you all would like to change venues, that's fine with me. The object would be to get as many boats there as possible. Match racing would be a lot of fun. Actually, I prefer it over fleet. Anyone care to throw out a venue and date?

Hi Don.

I am not familiar with either organization. Can you provide some more information on them? Websites?

Regards,

Guys,

I'm gonna go there (Chatfield) this weekend (June 15,16,17) to "check it out". Anyone know the best place to launch from? Do they rent slips? How much etc. Actually any info would be great! The wife and I are planning on heading out there Friday, and spending the weekend there if possible, and if weather holds.
