These are the dimensions I need. Not all of them, but I need enough to verify against the mast, or recreate the vee portion of the mast.

Specifically, I need the angle, width at the bottom, and how far up the nearest obstruction is (if any - the has the spreader socket weldment overlapping part of it, plus the bolt).

Alternatively, the width at the bottom, plus the width at the top of the straight part and the height (off the bottom) of where that measurement was taken.

Or all of them, and hope they don't contradict each other (over-dimensioned, but with errors).

A couple of measurements of the mast crutch are needed to be sure the outside roller discs will fit the crutch, too.

That's an excellent enough set of dimensions that it could be run off fairly easily when I get some garage time later.

krap! how come there's no krap icon? (Uh oh, that moderator guy is gonna get me now). I looked on that "suppliers Korner for drawings several times now and can't find them! all I can find are the parts lists! I wonder what I'm doing wrong?

OH NEVERMIND! I see it now! It's the little blue link next to the part number!! very nice.

The dealer in the SF Bay that sold me the boat setup a pin system. It looks like he did the following:

1) "Flattened" the flange that the vang normally attaches to.
2) Drilled a hole in the mast baseplate below it (the part that doesn't rotate) to align with the flange in 1) above.
3) Insert pin into holes drilled and the mast is "pinned".

You guys are working this way too hard. Not everything needs to be solved with AutoCAD and a lathe. The simple PVC mast brace over the step point (on my M) works just fine to keep the mast from flopping and twitching... Copied the concept from this in the mod section.

Okay, this is what I was looking for - I see now that the bottom fitting is a square gutter drain to round fitting - I think I can find that. I was already pretty sure about the cleanout Y on the top - I just needed to get the size.

The section he used for the middle looks like drain/irrigation type stuff.

I would like to try this simple lightweight plastic solution before I drill any holes. I do plan on getting a vang someday so I will not mod the vang tang. I'm just waiting for a hydraulic vang I like - (instead of a block and tackle vang I want to put in a solid hydraulic one). I just have not had the time to research it yet.

It's not hitting a gnat with a mallet when it comes to rolling the mast back to pin to the mast step by yourself when the crutch is just north of the mast CG when rolled back far enough, and the roller doesn't want to roll because it's soft with a high-friction bearing, and the crutch feels like it's going to bend or break the helm, and it's all I can do to get that mast pinned to the step hinge by myself especially with a genoa tied to it. That's the real problem, and a roller that keeps the mast oriented correctly, and rolls easily, has so far proved to be a worthwhile project.

Keeping it straight for trailering happends automatically, as it pins to the bow rail and the links at the roller keep it from jumping out. Not that it could, because I also tie it to both stern cleats via the genoa blocks, to reduce the side-to-side loads on the crutch tube and helm.

And I'm already sitting in front of a cad machine. Plus I think better in cad.

And my lathe, a 1944 Delta 1460 that worked in a war plant and followed my grandfather home afterwards, is my favorite machine. I've been using it since the mid-60's, when I was in elementary school.

I think they are 4 inch fittings. You don't need to use the square fitting at the bottom. on the M I just cut a couple of grooves in the bottom of the tube and then slide mast step flanges through the grooves. And your done. If you can wait until I get the boat back in the yard next week I can provide some pics.

My hunk of 2x4 is even simpler. Wish I could use a CAD program to draw it.
