violaman, save some money, make your own solar still.

A solar still is great in an emergency, uses no electricity, etc, on a yacht they take up valuable deck space, in operation they are slow creating drinking water.

We always travel with plastic sheeting, duct tape, etc and could easily cobble one together in an emergency, about the easiest way to make one would be to duct tape the plastic over our inflatable dinghy sealing up the center, put a bucket in the middle and place a food tin on top of the plastic to direct the condensation to the bucket, a plastic tube allows you to get to the water without opening up, to operate pour sea water onto the floor of the dinghy, tape down the plastic and wait.

A desalination pump would hopefully be hidden away inside the boat and switched on only when required.

A desalination pump isn't a must have on our boat, I like to experiment with alternative technologies.

Bought a Plastimo 150 ltr bladder today. Cost me $50 as it is a 2003 model, new in the bag.

The height under the Aft bunk area is approx 11cm. I may be able to get 60 ltres or so inside.

The 38mm filler inlet is on top of the bladder, the 12mm outlet - underneath at a corner.

As normal, I'll set up the bladder temporarily and use for holidays. Then the brain storm will occur and a more permanent fitting applied.

I reckon I'll use stiff PVC pipe mostly for the filler as the flexible hose is exe.

I hope to use the OEM hand pump in the galley until I find a suitable diaphram pump and tap.

Any other reports/photos of aft mounted bladders :?:

I agree with the amount of water needed is directly proportional to weight distribution. To help keep :macx: leveled properly, I just added another 5 gallon bladder from Walmart. The same stock bladder that came with the boat. Now that is 3 bladders. 2 for the galley hooked together with a Y gate valve, and 1 for the head.
