Let's seee...here's the breakdown:

Garhauer booth was $277 for various blocks for Cockpit Halyard/Topping Lift/Jiffy Reef/Lazy Jack Systems. Also picked up two Spinnaker Slide rings for 1" track (Aid w/spring lines at the slip)

Defender $89 for the RAM MIC+ remote mike for the cockpit (Standard Horizon GS3000 VHF is below)

Cruising Solutions $70 for 2 LED's (WHITE) for the Stern and Masthead Light

Mast Light $25 1 LED (WARM WHITE) for the Combo BOW light

FLITZ $85 for a can of Flitz w/small buffer (have the large buffer)

Stitch this Embroidery Booth, $104 for 4 Custom Ball caps with LAIKA embroidered for Captain and Crew .

FWIW, had a great time talking with Roger, a very nice man. Had more fun talking about items of interest outside of sailing!

Now I have to find a spot in the cabin for that autographed picture I got. I need to check if I have room next to the "Ships Plaque" on the bulkhead behind the aft Dinette seat. I also need to reserve room there for an authentic postcard of her namesake that I’m currently trying to get from a collector in Russia.

Come to think of it, I did mention, if not outright asked him if he did.

All I remember is that it sort of just hung there out in dead silence, perhaps with a blank stare....and then the converstion just sorta moved on!

Perhaps it was I who went blank!!

Roger would be smart to read these forums...and smarter still if he did not admit to reading them :) :D

I was there and met Roger on Friday when the weather was sunny and warm. It looked like Roger and who ever was with him had been out in the sun all day and were in a cranky mood. Paid me no mind after I said I had no wish to trade my :macx: in for an :macm: and then rattled on how they were upset with Kelly Hanson with each other. Not a very good first impression. Then again maybe it was part my fault since I only Idealize or fear one man and unless you can walk on water or part the Red Sea with your brain waves you are not him. I just wanted to check out the :macm: and ask about getting a traveler for my :macx: on the new Billy AC mod that I am getting this weekend in North Coralina at Pirate Sail. They kind of blue me off on that too. Obviously they dont know how good of a shoot I am and I was distracted having a great time looking at a the future live aboard prospects out there.

Actually, my experience on Saturday was quite the opposite, even with telling Roger I’m a devoted :macx: sailor having fought to re-own one after 3+ years.

Otho remembered me right off the bat even though I last saw him (at Annapolis) in ’03.

Though I do admit both were tickled pink when I told my story of selling my first ’02 :macx: (purchased from Otho in late ’01) to move up to the Bristol, and back to an ’02 :macx: earlier this year. Seems like it makes a great selling point for the Mac’s, because they plan on using it! I guess they both saw my enthusiasm for the brand, which btw, helped grease the “trailer bunks” for open discussion.

I would say only 40% of my discussion with Roger revolved around sailing/Mac’s. Most involved either his Air Force or my Nuke Submarine hitch. I do admit it get’s rather surreal when your discussing the accuracy of a strategic sub launched W68 nuke warheads with the dude that designed your sailboat. One can say what they want about the man, but he is an engineer. His….how do I put this……unique personality, which most true designer’s exhibit, showed through as well!

FWIW, Otho ALWAYS makes me feel right at home when I see him; I often kick off the shoes hang at the :macm: and let my enthusiasm help sell the boats. Even with the fact Otho knows I have no plans to ditch my :macx: . My son will take it when I retire and start the live aboard life. Which will most likely be the NAVY 44 MK I (they can be had from the Academy as I found out at the show). I would hang with him anytime, too bad the show is just a tad too far (280 miles) to make it a yearly justification.

Also, Roger did relay an open invitation (to all) to tour the factory. I hope to take him up on it someday soon.

Well,

nice to hear kudos about RM, Boat shows can seem endlessly tiring.........even to those hawking their wares. As I am sure at that show, there are more than a few looking down their noses at Mac's. gets hard to take.

He does mind his knitting, and knows how to make boats people want, doing it for 35 years.........

I do know that if I ever get off my dime and build this 34 ft trailerable waterballasted swing centerboard sled I have on my drawing board, I would want him on the first crewed sail.
