Water tank inside 26M sliding galley?
Anyone ever think of putting a poly water tank inside the sliding galley on a 26M? I'm looking at installing a 10 gallon tank there and another 10 gallon tank opposite side in the locker aft of the dinette table. Both tanks measure 14" wide by 17" long and 10 " in height and will easily fit in the spaces. I'm thinking that the 80 lbs or so of tank and water would still allow the galley to slide if needed. I intend to put a switched faucet with a 12v pump and plumb the tanks together so the stbd side tank would always be filled from the port tank acting as the vented tank and with a fill jumper hose that would be able to be run into the cockpit for hookup instead of making it a thru hull fitting. Would the water weight up that high in the galley significantly affect the boat's tenderness when conditions would cause heeling to port?

you want the weight as low as you can get it. below the rear birth is the best location for a water bladder, potentially additional ballast as its below the water line.
I also think you will lose a lot of storage space for other stuff.

Ira,
I took out the 20 ltr camp bladder from inside the sliding galley as it was too heavy causing the bottom of the galley to scrape on the slide top under. Scratched the white storage top covers.

I re positioned the 20 ltr under the galley area. Have since added another 20 ltr with a 3rd spare. As a cheap alternative to a Plastimo bladder & electric pump.
Kind Rgds

i am in the process of adding a second Plastimo in the rear berth, with the first under the v berth. Both will be connected to the galley with a lines to a tee fitting. When one tank runs empty,we can swap to the other. This will give us plenty of water for the Bahamas.
We picked up our second water bladder yesterday,at the Defender sale. It was absolute mayhem there, and you could barely move, but we managed tp fill our cart with great deals. A Cobra handheld VHF for $38.00!!

That space is to good to put water tanks in. Put 2 - 30 gal's under the stern bed. This will use the space much better as this space is hard to get in and out of.

How do you fill up such big tanks inside the cabin ?
I can imagine that you cant take the tanks out of the boat; not a 20 gal. tank.
If you use a hose to fill it you are not using potable water, just tap water. The only way to do it is to add a prurification tablet at least ?.

You really do want to match your proposed tank to your intended use. 60 gallons of water is an awful lot to try to keep fresh if you are a weekend sailor. Once those tanks get contaminated you are in real trouble. I put a roughly 10 gallon fresh tank in the front and sometimes have to fill it again on a week voyage, but thats ok with me.

Re: Water tank inside 26M sliding galley?
I ended up putting in a 7 gallon water container from WM and plumbed it to the pump facuet as a temp system for my up coming trip to the keys. I wanted something that would not leak inside the galley. I will carry an additonal 7 gallon container as a spare It's easy to swap out when empty and is alot more sturdy than the POC flexible water OEM water containers. I want to put in a poly tank and plumb it with an electric pump for a long term solution. Still looking for an ideal location. Don't want to go with a bladder in the after berth.

To fill my water tanks, I put a water fill inlet on the step of the engin well.
This is a lot of water for weekend sailing. It might be best to work out a system inside the sliding galley.

Re: Water tank inside 26M sliding galley?
I finally decided to install a 13 gallon poly tank under the aft dinette seat on my
. Had to cut a 11x15 inch access hole on the locker forward bulkhead and made a stained wooden cover to cover the hole. Talk about having anxiety about drilling holes and such! I also put in a switched faucet and a Harbor Freight 12v marine pump. I made up a fill hose that is capped on the suction side of the pump and coiled into the aft locker under the galley. I just hook up a hose and throttle with a hose shut-off adapter outside in the cockpit. All working well. Making up an adapter so I can gravity fill from my 7 gallon poly jugs if need be. Can't imagine that I would use all that water but I also have thoughts of rigging some type of deck shower. Not a big fan of the smaller solar showers. I could set a 7 gallon poly jug topside for the day to heat up and use my fill hose to take suction on the warmed water and divert the pump discharge to the deck shower. Getting it all ready to pull down to the keys next week!!!
