Railmakers.com - OEM for Mac rails

Post by Rick Westlake »

For anyone else who needs replacement pulpit or cockpit rails, RailMakers.com (in Costa Mesa, CA) are the original suppliers to MacGregor Yachts. If you wind up in my position - with a broken rail - they'd be the first place to ask about a replacement, because they may have the jigs to fabricate a new one.

I bent my port aft-cockpit rail badly in a docking mishap last spring (too high winds, no ballast, no keel, not quite enough sense) and broke it (ditto about sense) this week when I finally decided to try bending it back into place. As I was climbing down off the boat & trailer, wondering where I'd get a fix or replacement, I saw again the aluminum "Railmakers" sticker on my boarding ladder - and decided to Google for them; I might get lucky.

When I found 'em and called, Dave told me they had the jigs to make me up a new rail. Price, about $150 plus shipping and handling. They'll make it up next week and ship it to me UPS.

I used them to make my stern boarding ladder with an extra step. Works great and just bolted on.

Fot those inclined to make things, doing a test plan with Conduit and bending is not a bad plan. I envy the S owners their rear metal rails. I also like the stern seat idea. So.... (summer timeframe) bend some parts as a test, then get some SS to do the real thing. Fortunately, I live within a mile of a company that sells vast amount of metal - and can get what I want there. It's a good idea to test out using Conduit - to make sure that "one is one to the right" idea....

Are there rails for the stern of an :macm: that are not stern rail seats? Would be nice to have a horizontal rail back there to attach things to.

Just wondering.

Cheers,
Jim

I believe that the stern rail seats are an option on the 26M, so BWY, or Railmakers ought to have the standard available, Jim.
