Where to install larger 10 micron filter on M?

I recently was told by my yamaha dealer that not only had the dealer installed the wrong tach and tach harness on my 60 hp yamaha 4 stroke, but they also had not installed the inline filter. the engine was installed by a non yamaha dealer (bad idea in retrosprect) and I was informed that the yamaha warranty would not be valid without the 10 micron filter installed. But it is kind of big, so where to put in on the M?
maybe in the engine well on starboard side? i saw there was some previous chatter on this, but could not find the final consensus on best place. by the way, I was also told this was to help filter the fuel, not just filter out water, since the engine has a fuel/water separator under its hood. but non yamaha dealers dont seem to know how to service these either. my tach read 400 rpm with the engine off too, but maybe this was related to improper wiring harness, non yamaha tach etc. with a generic tach rather than the yamaha tach, the idiot lites that tell one if an alarm is a overheat alarm or a water in the gas dont work either. any advice on the above, and the best place to put the 10 micon filter appreciated.
