Chinook is Bahamas Bound

Tomorrow we pull out of the driveway on our way to the Bahamas. After a year or so of planning and preparation, we've got the boat and truck stuffed with gear and provisions, and we're finally ready to head out. Of course, before going anywhere tomorrow morning, I'll have to shovel the driveway one more time. This past week winter has hit with a vengeance, first with deep cold and then heavy snows. We've gotten around 2 feet in the last 3 days. It's really complicated getting the boat packed and ready to go. I'll be posting a journal of the trip, and this time it will be hosted by Blue Water Yachts. The direct web address is: http://bwyachts.com/chinook/bahamas_2011
You'll find some introductory postings at this address right now, and I expect it will soon show up on the bwyachts website through a link which will appear there.
I have to say that it's been a long winter here, and we're definitely ready for a change in scenery and weather. We'll keep you all posted. 8)

Chinook,
Great job with the journal, look forward to following your adventures. Had to play around to find it, the link is missing an underscore before the 2011.

Fair Winds,

All right! I'm taking notes. This looks to be an awesome trip. Be safe. And if you need a safe harbor on your way to FL from Lex Park, Let me know. Lynn and I would be happy to host you. We're about 8.5 hours from Lex Park when not towing a Mac.

Met your friend Mike at the boat ramp last week,in Ft. Pierce, we were launching our
boat for a test run, after not been run for almost two years. I had replaced all
the old gas, and had it serviced. Ran good, about 21 MPH. In anticipation
of selling. Dang it !!
Anyway, Mike came walking up and said he had a friend with a Mac
that was coming cross country and was going to the Bahamas.
I knew it was you. Small world.
Have a safe trip. WX is great here.

Hello all,

Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement. Yes, I did get the driveway finally shoveled. I had to clear 3 inches of heavy wet snow on the morning of departure. We made it to Hagerman ID the first day (yesterday). Long drive (553 miles). I plan on shorter drives from here on in. We're stopped for the night at a KOA in Rock Springs WY. Near as I can tell from AAA camping directory, the Rock Springs KOA is the only year round campground in all of Wyoming, at least along our route. We've got the electric space heater plugged in and are nice and toasty inside the cabin. Just finished grilling steaks out at the picnic table. 2 inches of new snow on the ground here, and a stiff wind kicking up outside. Hope I don't have to set an anchor. :D We'll drop down into Nebraska tomorrow, following the South Platte River eastward. Kind of an Oregon Trail trip in reverse. So far, everything is working well, and we haven't thought of anything forgotten yet.

Bob, that's pretty amazing, you running into my friend Mike at the boat ramp. He and his wife and parrot Pablo are all terrific. We met them going down the ICW in Chinook in 2003, and we later met up in Florida and in the Bahamas. A couple of years ago they took us out on their 32 foot Caliber for a sail from Connecticut to Maine. We're eager to see them again in Ft. Pierce. I just love the people we meet while boating.

We'll keep you posted as opportinities allow.

Cheers, Mike and Sandy/Chinook
