Hey Crew,

I was getting ready to buy a Honda EU2000 generator and was trying to find the best Price, Ebay is one, but was hoping to go somewhere else for this purchase. Any tips/advise/suggestions?

I don't know about pricing these days, but as far as good experiences buying, many in the RV world have had a good experience with Mayberry's in New Jersey (where I got mine). Give them a call for pricing.

Moe, buying for average use, excluding AC, would a 1000 suit most needs? There is a lot of difference in the weight of the 1000 and the 2000. Curious about your thoughts on this. I have thought about a genset but don't want to over kill this.

I am still seriously looking at the 1000 and 2000 Honda's. All I will really be doing with it is battery charging and annual Christmas Boat Parade. I'm not sure I can justify the extra cost between the 1000 and 2000?

I have been looking at the Honda 1000 and came across something on Ebay called Sinemaster1000. It looks very similar to the Honda and actually says it beat the Honda and Yamaha in tests. Not to mention that it is way cheaper. Has anybody bought one of these, or know anything about them?

Whether it's adequate depends, not only upon what you want to run, but on whether it's also feeding a battery charger, and if so, how heavily the batteries are discharged. With a good 3-stage charger putting 20 amps into a pair of batteries, about 300W of the capacity will be used, leaving only 700W for other purposes.

With no battery charger and nothing else drawing from it, the 1000 would probably be marginal for a 600W "cooking power" microwave oven, can draw 900W or more when the magnetron is on (for about 2/3 of the time on HIGH, hence the 600W cooking power rating), and also has a pretty high start-up current every time the magnetron cycles on. Our 900W cooking power microwave uses 1500W.

Without a charger, it might run a 4-cup Mr Coffee, but probably not a 10-cup model... or a hair dryer or small heater on low, but not high.

It might run a little Dirt Devil vacuum even while charging.

I understand the desire to keep weight down. It also wouldn't be as tight on the back porch as the 2000. Hope this helps you decide if it's enough for you.

Can't recall fer shure - you have 2 of the larger Honda 2K, right?

• - Ever try to figure if they make more noise than the Honda 1K?
  - Is there a speed function here ... like needing to use the little one twice as long?
  - What's the best way to feed juice from swimdeck into the cabin?
  - Any fear of kicking that puppy overboard?
  - Maybe of it receiving a saltwater bath across the transom?

I do have a pair of the EU2000s.

They're rated 59db at rated output, same as the EU1000. Putting out only as much as the EU1000 does at max, they can run at a lower rpm with the Eco-Throttle on, and I'd guess may be a little quieter. Perhaps not enough to be detectible by human hearing though.

If all they're doing is charging batteries through a good charger with bulk mode, they're both more than enough and would take the same time. It's better to charge that way than use their fixed DC output to do it.

If you have a shorepower connection going to a distribution inside, the best option is to plug the shorepower cable into the generator.

I'd definitely cable it through the handle to the helm seat to keep it from going overboard.

Underway, it might best be covered or relocated elsewhere.

We'd have no need for a microwave, will make coffee on the stove, and would probably opt for the smaller unit just for charging if we didn't have the larger ones now.

I have the 1000 Honda and would not get the 2000. I can ran a 700 watt micro wave oven, a 2 cup coffee maker and a 500 watt hair dryer. I use it to inflate the inflatable boat with a pump, watch a color 10" TV and run a small 750 watt heater. The small size and quietness of it is what I like best. It has a switch so it can run half power and it is really quiet. I also use the 1000 in my RV as the onboard genarator runs at full 4000 watts only. The marine paper, the "Log", has a guy selling them for around $600-650. I will pick up a copy and get his number or see if they have on-line classified.

We use the EU2000....the best on the market in our opinion. We stow it under the helm seat when we have it aboard...plug it into weather proof AC and DC outlets in the hull, linked to our elec system. We use a 1" nylon strap anchored to the hull....a sunbrella zip bag, and a wave shield ..Pergo slats in an aluminum channel guide... For day trips etc., we leave it home.
I also welded a threaded coupling to the exhaust outlet...and added a pipe ell...and an oversized 1" exhaust discharge hose...off the stern...and just a few inches into the water...muffles the already quiet sound...and reduces carbon monoxide exposure....we also have alarms in the cabin.
It looks to me like only Honda dealers carry these units...and apparently they inforce a no-advertised-discount.....we negotiated about $100 off suggested retail. We especially like the integrated computer feature that varies rpm to connected load. When not in the Mac, I have it available for emergency use at home. They are not cheap...but they are the best.

Gotta caution about trying to run "two in parallel", as Moe eluded.

You will have a serious issue, if its even possible, sync'ing two small portable generators. They will both be operating at the same voltages and frequencies (even then with some allowable variation) but 'out of the box' they will be running at two different syncronizations...

I picked up a copy of the LOG and the guy selling Honda Generators is not in there. I went to the web site "thelog.com" and still not there. I left a message to the classified at the Log 619-660-6150 and said this guy has ben advertising for years in your paper so they should know the old phone number. There is a ad for a used 2000EU Honda in the web site. I will let you know if they call back with number. I bought mine through this guy but at least 5 years ago.
