Checked my 2k X board and glad i did as was ready to drop at any moment. The leading edges of the uprights are scalloped out too. I will repair as rest of bracket is in good shape onece cleaned up.
wondering if nature of corrison/wear is the result of moving through the water over 12 years?, anyone noticed similar? What type SS is it - 316?
It also had what looked like small weld lines all over it though whioch turned out t be tiny worms encrusted on so hard , had to be gently chiselled off.
hey! i think i have the same issues but worse. is this the bracket that actually holds up the keel? do you have measurements on it like length width height material thickness hole location? I am afloat a long ways from home and have to repair . on the water if possible.
Dawgfish, not knowing what you have to complete your repairs, i would recommend you contact Blue Water Yachts in Seattle. Their part number 5502-1x0 is a replacement centerboard hanger with pin for the 26X. Who knows, they may be able to give you a hint on the install as well. Good Luck.
yes, holds keel up, 316 stainless. I've got it off at the moment as it happens but wont be at the marina till saturday to measure (UK time) cheap on BWY though if can get to you quickly.
I ended up mig welding some SS sheet to the original sides, replicating the hole do double the materail there. its been in a marina for a year with elec activity all around so needed to check but its as it was when I welded a year ago. only 304 mig wire as well.
doing in shallow water is in theory posiible with two. dangerous if mud bottom though. I'd tie a long thin string to the end of the hanger stud so person board can feed it back in the hole quickly whilst under water.
if no welding gear, as a emergency temp repair, Id cut a thin strip of any sheet metal same width or smaller than originall, hole in top to allow to sit over the existing bracket stud, bend down to shape obvioulsy with holes to accept pin, plenty of gloop around hole.
pin is 1/2 by 3, 3/4 inch, again anything steel will do temp
316 stainless is generally good - but if this is what the current bracket is made of, it did not last too well - that is pretty serious corrosion. I suggest also considering silicon bronze. If you use this, be careful of galvanic corrosion such as using a silicon bronze pivot and other fasteners.
If you stay with stainless steel, really look hard at galvanic corrosion issues in what other metals are near or in contact with this item.

as far as corrosion goes there dont seem to be anything else dissolving.
I did have a reeeaaaallly close lightning strike a couple months ago. thought I heard something get sizzled inside the stern. but sounds are funny inside, so it could have fried the bracket .....maybe....I am still interested in those dimensions . no blueprint to be found for this part. I have looked most of the day for any usable info regarding this. was like tracking a darn ghost!

That corrosion is probably not electrolysis but bad steel. My had a compression Pole with 316 on one end and mild steel on the other. The mild steel was down and it corroded just like your hangar.
My guess is the hangar steel built on your boat was out of spec. Check it with a magnet for giggles.
I had it fresh water for about 6 six months then another 6 in salt before checking, I've no idea what the PO did? it seemed to fit electrolysis from pics I've seen, pockmoarked scapploping etc. I expected it to show at least some signs again after all the time in a marina but none, so just assumed it took 12 years of electrolysis to get that bad, but who's knows? if a boat is a candiate for cheap material , a mac would be it. I'll check when i go down there.
