Thinking of buying Honda EU2000i generator in spring and looking for install ideas. Pictures always help. Thanks!!!

I have the 1000i and it fits neatly under the helm seat. I used a thick, soft knee-pad (the kind you garden with) to cushion the bottom so that it didn't transmit as much vibration through the hull when it was running. I think the 1000i and 2000i are about the same size, though you might check.

Yes, by searching mods every reference I could find people mounted it under the helm seat one way or another. So it must be the best place for it on

People get creative with these things.

I've seen it hanging from bungies from the bow pulpit (avoid vibration) to sitting in the dinghy behind the boat with a heavy extension cord.
One captain mounted it on top of the outboard on rubber feet. Lot's of ways to do it.

Just be careful with CO. Get a battery operated CO detector and keep it in the cabin.

We have the 2000 and keep it under the helm seat. I did find that a copper 1/2 inch street ell fits right into the exhaust outlet and diverts the hot exhaust directly aft to keep the fiberglass cool. That way, we don't have to turn the unit to run it.

Do you guys use shore power cable to connect generator to the boat? This is what I am thinking to do. Store 12 feet shore power cable on the boat and use it when ruining generator (connecting shore power cable to generator and boat shore power receptacle). Is this right thing to do? Thanks!

Correct. You will only be able to pull 15 amps. So can't run the AC and washer and dryer at the same time.

If you got a shore power cable, why not? I used to plug the shore power into an inverter.

Now if you don't have shore power installed on your boat, seems like a heavy duty extension cord would work as well.

I do have shore power installed, and I now have all of my questions answered regarding the generator. Thank you all for your help!!!

The honda is great no questions about it, but what do you want to run and how often?

The EU2000 is small, but still big on a mac for storing or moving around. I just wanted to run a 40A battery charger when out longer periods so got a little 800W earthquake inverter gen for under $300 and they are tiny physically & only 21lbs. I run it out of gas and keep it out of the way in the bathroom on the when not in use. It will also run my portable AC (they use less energy than a window unit). They are only 700W steady so you are limited to low power items vs the 1600W of the honda 2000i.

I've tried several positions for a generator. On the bow at anchor, which is what almost all boaters at Silver Glen Springs in FL do to keep the noise and exhaust far from the cockpit. This is best when using two anchors and position of boat has nothing to do with the wind. If it is there while anchoring with one anchor, the exhaust can blow back over the boat, and same thing if you motor with it there. Before I built an underseat platform, that I placed in the mod section, I placed it on the stern rail seats I installed. The rail seat was a good place to have the exhaust blow over the back of the boat, but took up valuable cockpit space, and, was noisy. Placing it under the helm seat solves this and protects the gen. even more from rain, and spray. I like the Yamaha ones ,which are, at least, equal to the Honda ones. Plus, they are a pretty blue color. On these, the outlets are on the side instead of the front like on the Honda. This lets me place a plastic cover over the outlet and cord there to protect from water without blocking the airflow though the motor. I always run the gen. carb. dry before storage,and place a little fuel stabilizer in the tank. It usually starts on the first pull, even 10 months later. I've run one up to 2 weeks nonstop without problems , except to change the oil after one week, and always use synthetic oil in them. My wife likes her comforts, which I get to enjoy, too. So this little gen. that only uses 3 gallons per day, lets her have her AC, 110qt. Waeco freezer, that we sit on the port bench in front of the galley, and a 115 qt. cooler that we exchange 2 frozen soda bottles of water between it and the freezer daily to get cooled food. In addition, we have plenty of electricity for a toaster,single unit electric hot plate for cooking in the cabin, coffee pot, battery chargers and any other electronics used. A proper RV on the water. Without this capability, I would be boating alone in any hot weather, which is usually when I have my vacations. The Yamaha I bought for the boat has lasted 7 years now used largely in a salt water environment. I saturate the thing with WD 40, but even so,I thought I would be replacing them every couple of years.

I have the Northern tools Powerhouse 2000 watt gen. Runs 54 dbs (much less sound) than Honda 2000 58 dbs and is copper wound with harness to hook up another generator and cost $500.
This fits under rear seat and also at lower level next to steering on MacX.
Same size and weight of the Honda 2000, 1/2 the price.
The 5000 btu air condition from Honeywell only uses 4 amps AC max and this unit pushes 13.5 amps.
I am now using both air condition and generator to power my 14ft x 7 ft Toy Hauler Camper.
I use the Camper to Haul two full Size motorcycles and 2-12 ft Kayacs, Take them out when camping.
I have a on demand water heater for external showers.

I put mine on a cutting board with a closed cell foam pad underneath and secure it on one of my stern rail seats.

+1 on the carbon monoxide detectors (I use 2 with my family aboard...one forward and one aft). You also need to be aware of other boats wind scoops in tight anchorages downwind.

I bought the Honda 2k (primary model) so I can use it camping/around the house too and have a little more power.

Of note...the primary model (2x110 sockets) runs 2x 800w lines out to get the 1600w capability. On my boat (and I think most)...there is NOT the capability to hook it up to my shore power input because you cannot combine 2x 800w lines into a 3 pin 30 amp shore power cord. I am NOT electrically gifted, but my understanding is it takes a modified power cable with 2x110 inputs leading to a 4 pin 50 amp shore power connector to fully combine both 800w lines coming out of the primary honda 2k model.

I think some here may have the secondary honda 2k (designed to run in tandem with the primary for 4k capability) and has a 15amp socket vs 2x110?

You may want to clarify before you buy.

I wanted the non-boat usage and use 2x heavy duty extension cords with 3x outlets each.. powers my refrigerator and a/c on one line and leaves a spare for anything else (high efficiency a/c and Engle refrig/freezer).

I was looking at the Northern Tool generator, but I'm concerned about the real noise under load. I know, on paper, it sounds to be in the same class as the Honda or the Yamaha, would you confirm these claims and judge it comfortable for use on a Mac?
