Boom roller broke, now what?!

So on day 1 (yesterday) of a planned 7 day trip the wire cable that runs through the roller and attached to the bail at the mast snapped right at the swage. (To be clear, the cable broke). So now the rolling part doesn't work, and my clew hangs flopping with the weight of the roller. The tack is sort of held back on the boom by the roller end, but I really have no way of tensioning the sail as-is. We are continuing our trip anyways - today we motored into the wind and then ran with genoa poled out.
Would like to do two things:
1). Figure out best way to use mainsail for rest of the trip. I have stock sail with bottom bolt rope, so could perhaps remove the bolts on the roller assembly and take it off. I have no outhsul cleat, but could maybe poach one off the port side of my mast (since genoa is on a roller). Or I could keep gimping along with the loose boom roller and only use during light winds when I think I want a bit of a baggy sail anyways.
2). Determine what to do longer term. I don't have any local sailing hardware or fixer types, but could possibly find someone to replace the wire cable that holds the roller above the boom. I don't really know how it is attached to the end of the boom as it sort of just disappears into the curved SS section. My other thought is to buy a lazy jack system, slides and mast gate and go with that. Any other ideas?
(I tried putting some photos on a website to link here but haven't been able to figure out how to do so from my phone.)
