Emergency rudder system is built into the X and M.

Yeah, lose steering coming into the harbor--toss the mate off the back and have her hold on to the lower end and the ladder. Tell her which way to throw out a leg to create the necessary back pressure to turn the boat.
If you foresee this kind of problem, have a 'paddle' that you can bungy strap onto one of the rudders and use it like a tiller.
