Removable companionway stairs - simple method
Removable stairs make the rear berth/storage area more accessible. I couldn't access the nuts of the bolts securing the bottom of the stairs. So I cut the vertical stair rail pipes at top and bottom. Then inserted a short length of plastic pipe in each stair pipe bottom 'socket'. The stairs can then be just lifted up and out of the way. When the stairs are put back they are kept in position and secure by the plastic pipe inserts and the stairs just rest on the bulkhead at the top. No bolts to loosen or tighten. I don't think I needed to cut the top of the rail pipes - just remove the securing nuts and bolts at the top and plug their holes.
