Re: Ducking under bridges
I used the factory system on a different MacGregor and thought it would work well for what you are describing and you could do it while underway - esp. if you have baby stays installed. It's a good point about having a way tension the forestay and quick-disconnect if you're going to do a lot of this...

Re: Thinking Seriously About Doing the Great Loop
Sounds like a great idea! I hope you have the time to plan and really pull it off! Seems like the shallow draft of the X would be a benefit in the US rivers, as I understand some areas are shallow due to lack of rain/snow. One of your biggest challenges might be fuel. I remember listening to a prese...

Re: Use a Spinnaker Sock??
So, if I understood your post - you are using parrel beads and a line through a block to adjust the tack? I don't have a spin yet, but am planning to add.

Re: how to install genoa on roller furler
IF you have a CDI flexible furler (sort of sounds like you do), google them and read the instruction manual. On mine, I attach a messenger line to the halyard while installing the sail. Once the sail is on, you can take away the messenger line.

Re: Swing keel up when moored?
The original winch on my '83 Mac 22 turned freely in both directions (it clicked while lowering the keel) - without changing anything on the winch. If yours doesn't turn easily in both directions, could be a different winch or you have problems...

Re: How far do you heal your boat.
My Mac 22 seems to be self-limiting. At anything much over 15 - 20 degrees, I start to lose rudder control and she will round up.

Re: A few Mac 25 questions
Your battery and fuse panel location are the same as those on my 1982 Mac 22...mine are definitely original locations. Perhaps there were changes made, depending on model year?

2nd Lazarette?
I have an '83 Mac 22. The lazarette hatch is on starboard side, with only a solid seat to port. While there is a lot of storage area inside, below this seat - it's only accessible from the interior, end-on. FWIW, I don't have a galley that could/would slide into that area. Has anyone taken on the ta...

Re: Moving mainsail sheets on V24?
you should be careful if you have end-boom sheeting (as on my Mac 22). I have been told that the boom may not be strong enough to support sheeting from the mid-point and may fail.
