That boom vang is to prevent the boom kicking upwards, and altering the set of the mainsail...also it takes the strain off the mainsheet control...it should not prevent the swing of the boom from side to side...that is the job of a ' boom brake' if fitted.
hope this helps.

Re: The time has come...to say goodbye
I would like to get hold of a basic :macm: hull and modify the rest of it...first up, turn it upside down and give it a couple of shallow keels, about 6 inches deep, for the full length. to give it tracking stablity...then a removeable centre rudder [ small] for coming in to dock...and keep the twin...

Oh ! if only I had some spare dollars....$17,000 US for a 2000 :macx: ....and with the aussie dollar now at about $1.15, this makes it even cheaper in $AU. I say this because I sold my 03 :macm: at a bit more than I paid for it 20 months before...around the $AU60 mark...and there is ONE for sale he...

Re: Better location for the mast hinge?
A big improvement to what Roger designed would be a very solid tabernacle with the pivot point about two feet off the deck. this would involve lengthening the shrouds ...all five3...and raising the rear mast support. My NEXT :macm: will have only a 7 metre mast to facilitate going under three bridge...

Re: Water Ballast and -7c (19F)
We here in Western Australia do not have these sorts of problems, but one cure to stop water freezing and expanding is an old trick I learned from when I had an old fashioned shop fridge used to store icecream...in a beach kiosk... Add methylated spirits to the water...the water gets very cold but w...

Our marine parts suppliers here in the West do not cater to :macm: 's at all... Have you blokes considered making up your own parts...like using a bolt of the same diameter [ maybe one with a bad thread] cutting it to proper length and drilling each end for a 'ring ding'...using an ordinary bit with...

I had cause to motor SEAHORSE [ no longer mine] downriver after my little bingle...into the teeth of a 30 knot seabreeze...and she handled it fine...the high sides of the hull did not overpower the Suzuki 50 h.p. even when angle of attack changed on the river bends...

Re: Icom IC-M402 Marine Radio In Australia
Hi Peter...maybe you now have an extra dinghy anchor..just joking... But be aware that [ in Western Australia at least] you must have a radio operators for VHF. No qualifications are necessary for 27 meg. A friend [ yacht club member] has a handheld VHF and he claims he is covered for this certifica...
