Re: 40 hp Merc
It is a used 4 stroke merc in great condition. Still may be leaning toward a 50 hp or even a little more. I do a lot of fishing and need to go about 15 mph. New motors are just so damn expensive and they don't last. I have a 25 hp Johnson on another boat from the 70's runs like a top. I had a 18 hp ...

Re: 40 hp Merc
Sorry, forgot to say that I have a 1997 macgregor 26X, and I believe the engine is a 98. Reaches 4000 rpm and bogs down to 2200. Will run at 3000 to 3500 rmp steady and that's it.
Thanks,
Rick

40 hp Merc
I have had nothing but trouble with this Tohatsu 50 hp power engine. Long story short spent about 1000 dollars by two different authorized dealers and still keeps doing the same thing. I am looking into getting a 40hp merc and was wondering how this engine would perform on this boat. Was wondering i...

Re: Bent Mast
Yes. Thanks for the response. It is not torn or cracked. It has a curvature that is noticeable. It fell once raised all the way up. Where it was attached came loose. Raised and lowered it many times but made a foolish mistake and it came crashing down. So I guess you could say it is bowed, is a bett...

Bent Mast
Long story short, I have a mast that is stressed about four feet from the base. it has a significant curvature, which is noticeable. Don't know if I can use it. I'm not looking to win any races or sail to Bermuda, just looking to day sail. Will a mast that is not perfectly straight work or have to g...

Nicro solar powered vent
I purchased the Nicro 4" solar powered vent and was thinking of installing it in the front hatch of my MacGregor 26X. In looking at the hatch it could possibly be placed in two locations. There is a flat rectangular portion towards the back portion of the hatch and the front portion of the hatc...

Re: Propeller for Mac 26X
Thanks for all the input into this matter. I know the engine never ran right because I could not get it over 3500 rpms without bogging down. When I first bought the boat I took it to an authorized mechanic and he tuned it up but I had the feeling it wasn't right. The person I have it with now is pre...

Propeller for Mac 26X
I have a 1997 26X with a 1996 50 hp Tohatsu. Long story short, been way under powered and took it into marina for repair. Needs to rebuild carbs, one is not working, but he also said I have a 3 blade prop that is 11.4 X 12 pitch. He said he believes it should be a 3 blade 11.1 X 9 pitch, which is th...

Tohatsu 50 hp Engine
I have a 1998 26X with a 50 hp Tohatsu Engine. Last year when I would accelerate to maximum, the boat would take off quickly but at about nine mph it would just not go any faster and kind of accelerate and then bog down, want to accelerate and bog down. I know in a car, sometimes this is caused by a...

Re: Motoring the 26X
Thanks to everyone for your replies and advice. I am over cautious and that is why the boat is in a smaller lake unitl I am confident in what it can do. It has a 50hp Tahotsu (sp) and is now out of the water and I pondered long and hard on the decision to buy it for many years and read all about it....

Motoring the 26X
I have a question on motoring with the 26X. I purchased a 1998 26X. I had it on a small lake in Ohio and sailed with a full ballast. After sailing I raised the keel and rudders to power on back. The wind was about 10 knots, maybe 12, and the boat did not plane at all and heading with the wind across...

Re: Water Ballast
Thanks for all replies. I thought it might be that I needed more weight to get the boat lower in the water. I appreciate all the advice and will take it from there.

Water Ballast
I bought a 1997 26X. The manual says to have a full ballast tank the water must be about three inches from the top of the vent hole. You should be able to stick your finger in and touch the water. Well, the water will only fill to about 6 inches below the vent hole. Water seeks its own level and it ...
