Re: I need advice on a buying a 26x!!!!!!!!!!

Tom, I understand. The ladder makes a big diff though. I like to stand on it and lean on the sliding hatch. Also I don't worry about sliding with wet feet. One of the best mods I did was to put on a larger helm wheel. Wow, huge difference in the ease of steering. I believe it is 18". Capncarp, 99 Tr...

Re: I need advice on a buying a 26x!!!!!!!!!!

My April 99X also has the ladder. The 99 upgrades include bigger tank valve, vent valve moved forward, ladder, stainless steel rudder brackets, new style rudders and chrome cleats. The hatch sliders changed to polymer (white ).I thought the deck was changed from balsa to fiberglass matting but I'm n...

Re: Help for restoring a MacGregor 26X, model year 2000

Guy's, The rudders and rudder brackets on the pre 99's are entirely different. ECO's is a 2000. I'm not sure that the pre 99 brackets will even fit the 2000 without redrilling mounting holes in the boat. I know the 2000 rudders won't fit the pre 99 brackets. the 2000 brackets are stainless. But, if ...

Re: Mac trawler in music video

Hey DanO,
Do you mean the trawler tower or the two "mod"els in the video? :P I made mine. I'd be willing to tell you how to do it if you drop me a PM.

Re: Mac trawler in music video

It will be hard to beat that video. I thought that the X under power looked great. The X is a very stylish design. I posted a couple of pic's of Seadreams under the mods page "exterior". Mac Trawler Tower. It shows my X with the trawler mast I made for it. It turns a lot of heads. Capncarp, trawler ...

Re: Thoughts on this Mac?

Looks like a good deal. A little clean up and she will look great. An X mast raising system is available from Blue Water Yachts for $98. Why adapt a M raiser?

Re: Steering wheel replacement

Westmarine used to handle them. They are just a powerboat 15" 10 degree wheel. I put the 18" ,10 degree helm on my 99. Best mod I ever did. 1: now you have a sailboat helm 2: handling is much easier.

Re: Best/better boat waxes?

I waxed Seadreams every year since I got the boat new in 99. I have used just about everything but didn't get the results I wanted. Last year I hired a marine detail company to do . It came out beautiful. They used 'Fleet Wax".

Re: MacTrawler Avatar

I have been running a tower for several years now. Mine is just like Duane's but with horizontal wings added. I have the VHF antenna attached at the top and chrome twin horns mounted inside the towers two vertical sides. I also have a full length, standup bimini. She turns a lot of heads. With a few...

Re: Anchors and anchor rollers

There is not one correct answer for this question. One thing for sure however is don't buy your anchor based on length. The X is a very, very light boat. I use a 8 and 13# Fortress and have never dragged it. But, I am in a low to medium current area with generally sand or mud bottoms. capncarp, 99 :...

Re: Weight of 26 x helm seat for lift

I have to agree with Steve K. I've owned my X for 14 years and have found the boat roomier and more comfortable with the helm seat removed. It is much, much easier and safer to move around with it gone.
