I use a dremel butane solder iron. It comes with a hot knife tip. It works great. Also good for heat shrink and solder.

Re: New steering cable length
11 feet worked very well for me. The way I routed the cable, it worked out just right. It was longer than the original but I don't remember by how much.Mcadieux wrote: How tight was your 11ft cable?

When replacing the steering cable on my X, the length I ordered was 11 feet. 3 feet will not work.

Re: Roller furler question
There should be a 3/16" pin that goes through the side of the side of drum assembly. It is about an inch from the top and should support the luff.

Re: First Trip of 2016
I used two Toyota 4Runners (one at a time :| ), a Honda Odyssey, a Highlander, and now a Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel. The GC tows the best of all of them, except for the handling with the Odyssey. And I got 18+ mpg towing to Toronto and back, and over 20 on the highway portions, with the diesel (30-...

Re: water resistant pocket door
You could always put a small spacer between the door and the pocket. That way if water gets around the door, it would not get into the pocket.

Here is a product I have used. It works great for coating the inside of a frame. Also good for stopping existing rust.

Actually it's called a leech line. If your sails leech starts to flutter, you would pull just enough tension on the line to get the fluttering to stop.

Re: Mast Gate
I recently bought the external hinge from mastgates.com (see link above) and it works great. I closed the original gate and opened a new one on one side of the mast similar to the new :macm: gate, it is placed higher than the original so that all the slugs come down all the way to the boom. The ent...

Re: Mast Gate
Yes, I have searched, and it looks easy to fashion something for the standard type of opening, but cant find anything or work out how to do something that will work with this type of groove where both sides open right up. I was looking at doing something like this http://www.mastgates.com/Home_Page...
