Re: Making 26M a LiveAboard Boat

my wife and I have been looking at living aboard our M. when considering living on a small boat, everyone talks primarily about the difficulties with no shower, no running hot water, and those type of creature comforts. Now suppose that you had all that. what else would make the MAC unsuitable? in t...

Re: Docking for a Beginner please help

Hi there. I also am new to boating. when i first took out my M, i had my rudders and CB up. it was a windy day, and i got pushed around in circles, right next to million dollar trawlers. Needless to say, i was worried. I yelled out for help, and some ppl popped out of their boats, and said it looked...

Re: Sailing in Virginia

Hey there, Well after having orders deleted twice, it looks like we will be going to the DC area as well. we have been looking at active captain for marinas. as far as your registration goes, when I called the the office in charge of that in one county, they said we had a military exemption, just li...

Re: Departure for Bahamas today

the craziest part of this story is that a security guard would carry a .22. it has the stopping power to take on a squirrel, or a small bird maybe. just google .22 bounces off head. lol. a pointy stick is more threatening. and using a .22 shot in the air to scare off someone? wouldn't clapping your ...

Re: Rips on the jib sail cover

if you have access to a sewing machine, you might consider sewing a jib bag. they are about as easy as you can get for a sailboat, except for duffles. they say you need a commercial sewing machine, but my trusty lil singer does the job quite well. just gotta make sure your needles are plenty sharp.

Re: About to get a suitable tow vehicle (finally)

when I was first considering a Mac I went out and bought a v6 ford escape. before i was able to buy the boat, i was in a terrible accident that took out the small SUV. the family made it through the accident well enough, and good insurance paid for my now second tow vehicle, and the 09 :macm: from b...

Re: Boat show in Annapolis, new DVD

I agree about the site, and the boat as well. for me though, when I consider what the Mac is , i come to think its a great "barebones" boat, and a good platform for modding. other boats will undoubtedly sell after 30 years without a single mod, (provided decent factory options) to include ...

Re: Securing your trailer

for my trailer I use http://www.prolineracks.com/fulton-utl100-coupler-lock.html Its the better version of the one for sale at west marine, and at that site, its about half the price. i think i ended up paying 70 for mine at a RV specialty store. that's what i get for shopping at a brick and mortar ...

Re: Length of Topping Lift

I personally love the topping lift the Bill put on my boat at boats 4 sail. its an eye bolt run into the tip of the boom, and a lil carabiner attached at the end of the TL that's simply tied at the masthead. to adjust the height all i do is wrap it around the cleat at the end of the boom. i let it s...

Re: 2:1 rudder uphaul and quick release travel pins

I like the bushing idea too. but out of curiosity, would it be good to maybe adhere on some SS washers with 5200 to prevent chafing and to aid also in spreading out the stress on the glass?

Re: LandingLoop for Docking

my comments are half tongue in cheek as are yours i'm sure. when i say we are snobbish when we talk about our ways of doing things being better than others i do mean WE. when given a chance to lasso a bollard my money is on the table and i get as proud as a peacock, and that's part of the fun...

Re: LandingLoop for Docking

when we say that our way is the only way, and other ways are mistakes, that's what makes us a snob. the whole thing about poking fun and others should take our ribbing sounds more like bullying to me, speaking of grade school. this thread is supposed to me about a particular type of docking tool, no...

Re: LandingLoop for Docking

I have to agree that people do a lot of dumb things on the water, and youtube is a testament to that. and there are certainly gadgets that come and go. But a boat hook and dock lines, have both been around for at least my whole life though. at my marina is very rare to see a boat docking without a h...

Re: LandingLoop for Docking

I just use a thick rubber band on my boat pole. Hook one "corner" of the loop at the end of the hook as usual and stuff a short bit of the other "corner" under the rubber band. Not used much anymore these days, as so many docks here in Finland have rings rather than cleats, so i...
