Re: MacGregor 25 Questions: towing / outboard
Some folks who don't want the expense of a slip or the hassle of rigging every time manage to find a place near a ramp to park it on the trailer with the mast up. Seems like a decent compromise if you like going to the same lake each time. There's "something" about that last few inches to ...

Re: MacGregor 25 Questions: towing / outboard
HAHAHA.....tends to pucker you up in places that pucker if you're not expecting it!!!! Yeeee haaaaw! I have had it happen coming down the Rockies with a 30 foot trailer behind a 1 ton Suburban, and with sway control. It ain't no joke. If you have separate brake controls you can generally stop it by ...

Re: Forestay tension
I was gonna say that I couldn't comment on forestay tension due to being circumnavigated at birth, but....... I have 3 things on the end of the forestay....A quick snap connector on the end, one of those lever action thingies that works like a chain binder, and a turnbuckle. Makes things easier, esp...

Re: MacGregor 25 Questions: towing / outboard
Neglected to add that I put a 4 stroke 6 horse Nissan on the 22 and find that much above half throttle mostly amounts to extra noise and gas consumption with two normal sized people and enough stuff for a weekend on board. Loading the boat on the trailer on windy days can be a royal pain in the arse...

Re: MacGregor 25 Questions: towing / outboard
Worked out of an S10 with the V6 for a lot of years, and they are a tough little vehicle. Hauled some crazy loads with that little thing. The old dude I bought it from 12 years before I junked it actually hauled a cattle trailer with it, and before that it got a good workout as a company unit for Be...

Re: Help me find a used keel
I had considered doing a modified keel that would have have deeper profile and more weight for the Mac22. Just something I was thinking about, but will probably never do unless I have to....found an old Lone Star that is occupying my time at the moment :).....anyway, I don't know why you couldn't bu...

Re: using rudders in a horizontal (shoal?) position
Having shortened the tiller to allow more room in the cockpit, I find the IdaSailor rudder in the horizontal mode to be a bit unwieldy with less leverage. On the other hand, it flips up when it needs to, so with this one, not an issue. I have this idea that I would like a bracket that would slide up...

Re: Buying a used MacGregor 26M
I am probably a heretic in a consumerist society to point this out, but the process for budgeting and allocating funds to make loan payments on the back end of a purchase is identical to what is required to save for it on the front end. Weird, ain't it? HAHAHA

Re: How many gallons of water to wash a Mac?
I think I would probably try it with 10 gallons....a gallon or two with soap/bleach out of a bucket with a long handled brush to wash, and the rest for rinsing out of a large sized pump-up garden sprayer. (After you're done you can keep it on board for use as a pressurized cockpit shower for cleanin...

Re: A Kick-up Rudder for Spirit (V-22)
....still waiting for one of these outboard manufacturers to mount a flip-up rudder on one of their long shaft sailboat motors. It would certainly save a lot of dinking around to make it all one unit mounted in the center of the transom.

Re: MacGregor 22 just purchased "Spirit"
Our closest option is Fork, which is OK if there's not a 60 mph group bass chase going on. :) We are apologetic former power boaters. HAHAHA Tawokoni and Lake O the Pines are also within reasonable distance. Palestine would also be an option....how do you find it for sailing? Looks like maybe 8 mile...

Re: MacGregor 22 just purchased "Spirit"
It's not a bad option to have and cheap to do. One of the major Mac dealers in the upper midwest whose name and website I have temporarily forgotten (might be boats4sail in Wisconsin) recommends that kind of an arrangement over a roller furler for those who trailer a lot. It's cheap, and I'm all ove...

Re: MacGregor 22 just purchased "Spirit"
In conjunction with adding turnbuckles to the side stays, I raised the boom and mast enough to allow sailing with the poptop up. Can't use the boom vang, but there are times when it's nice to be able to do that. Nice option for those really hot days with very light breeze. Thanks for the words of en...

Re: MacGregor 22 just purchased "Spirit"
OK. I freely admit that I need to get a life....(multiple posts) We tend to stay home on holidays and avoid the crowds due to having flexible schedules, and make up for it during the week. A couple other mods we did was to replace the stock side stay adjusters with turnbuckles. If I NEVER see anothe...

Re: MacGregor 22 just purchased "Spirit"
There is one other rather pricey option you might consider after you get out and get a feel for things. We felt that the stock rudder left a bit to be desired and decided to try the IdaSailor option. Very pleased with that decision. Went from handling like a dump truck to a sports car, and eliminate...
