Re: Catalina March 24-30
Spring Break is the week of Monday, April 9th through the Friday 13th. The weather should be great. Mid seventies with sunshine is the norm with some early morning fog. Should be a great trip. Have fun and be safe.

Can you get at the bolt with a torch? If you can, heat the bolt then try the breaker bar. Good luck!

Re: First day out
Next time you sail out of Long Beach, launch ove by the Queen Mary. You can raise the mast while on dry land as there are no low bridges. You can also tie up easier when launching and don't have the cross tide puching you sideways like you do at the Los Alamitos ramp. I live in Long Beach and launch...

Re: misc. rambling, rants, raves and short stories
Curtis,
There is a web site called Latitudes and Attitudes that has free how-to videos for sailing, including sailing to the dock, man overboard procedures, sailing up wind, etc. Great site with lots of helpful tips.
Good Luck and Good Sailing!

Dennis,
I live in Long Beach and keep my Mac 25 on the hard in Wilmington. I would be more than happy to show you how the rigging is set up and stepping the mast. Contact me in the member area.

Re: New Guy With a Venture 25...
Irishguy, I use a solar panel battery charger on my Mac 25 to keep the battery up to snuff. It seems to work well for that; however, I don't think it has the juice to run anything more than a small fan. If nothing else it would keep your battery charged enough to use other electrical gear for a whil...

Re: how to replace keel cable
You can buy stainless steel cable from Lowes or Home Depot for a whole lot less than West Marine. They have various sizes just in case you want to replace with a larger diameter cable.

Re: I hate the rudder
Pete, I've never seen a dagger rudder on a Mac. If you can figure out how to fabricate one, PLEASE show us. That would be a great alternative. I put a rope clutch on mine to hold my rudder in the extended position. That works most of the time but can still be cumbersome. Good luck and post pictures.

Having been a pro driver in a previous life, I wholeheartedly agree with Scott. The best places are clean, have shower and laundry facilities, and, most of all, are safe.
Good Luck and have fun.

Re: Is this mod structurally safe
The old Mac 25's have a lazerette on the starboard side cocpit that does not leak or impair the structural integrity of the boat. The lip actually curves down the side of the bench about 2". You could copy that design. Next time I get a chance, I'll take a picture and post.

Re: Drilling mast question
A little hint when running wires through the mast to the hole you have drilled; get a piece of string or twine as long as the mast, place the string/twine in the bottom of the mast AND TIE IT OFF, and finally, place your shop vac over the hole ant turn it on. The vac will suck the string/twine up th...

So tell us! How was the weekend cruise? I live in Long Beach and could not go this time but the weather seemed to cooperate. Fill us in on the trip. Good? Bad? So-So?
Thanks.

Re: A few Mac 25 questions
The strapping is a 2" by 3' metal strap used in construction. I got them at Home Depot and screwed them to the underside of the bed to give support while maintaining flexibility. I used two on each side. It seems I have had more problems with the trailor than I ever had with the boat. Mine was ...

Re: A few Mac 25 questions
Have fun. I've been working on my '85 Mac for three years and I'm still at it. Regarding the questions asked:
First, I put my second battery under the port side settee.
Second, I used 10'X2"X8" for my bunks with strapping attached underneath for added support.
Enjoy.
