Re: Steering Upgrade

Thanks Dennis, It is good to know that Mac owners can replace sails reasonably here in Oz. Thanks for sharing that. Since coming here to East Gippsland I joined the local sailing club. They have a group called "Ancient Mariners" and we race on Tuesday. I say race not in the strictest sense...

Re: Upgrade already?

A heeling MACM 26 in 20+ knot conditions is not just about design inadequacies. You do not say whether you purchased a new :macm but presume that it was not as they are no longer manufactured. The Dacron sails that the Boat comes with very quickly stretch especially if used under higher wind conditi...

Re: Steering Upgrade

Upgraded :macm: post upgraded Steering. Had almost no wind today so took Windsong out to test the new steeering upgrade for three hours under motor. Tested with and without Ballast at varying speeds up t 17.5 knots. The improvement was way above all expectations under all conditions. Can't wait unti...

Re: Time to replace standing rigging?

On my 2009 :macm: I have just replaced my stand up rigging with some modifications to the chain plate adjusters. My reason being that in the sailing community where I live Marine Insurers have been refusing to reimburse for broken masts and rigging if they are older than ten years and have not had s...

Re: Suzuki 100BTL

BOAT was asking for experience with larger motors. My 60hp ETEC on my :macm: was stolen so I had to replace. I did so with a 75HP ETEC and have found it much more effective but not in Speed. 18.5 kn in wavelet water or glassy is maximum with a full ballast. The benefit for me is the torque available...

Steering Upgrade

Last week i bit the bullet :) and ordered the upgraded steering and cable kit from BWY. Surprisingly it arrived in 4 days so today I have removed the old one and installed the upgrade. Although I have not put :macm: WindSong in the water yet, the slop in the former Rack and pinion is gone entirely. ...

Re: New Outboard Recommendations

I replaced my stolen ETEC 60 with a 75HP ETEc on my :macm: . It has, solved for me the controlling of the stern while slowly approaching mooring in adverse winds. Because of the added power I can stop much more quickly therefore allowing me to approach quickly with more control) and then come to a h...

Re: Stolen Engine

Just returned from a quick trip down to Paynesville to install some motor protection. Really pleased with the new ETEC 75. Gives a lot more control to the boat at slower speeds and cruises faster at lower RPMs. Have installed an alarm that has a 12mm HT wire that have passed from Cabin through the e...

UPGRADED to ETEC 75HP

Further to my stolen ETEC 60. Insurance coughed up about 50% for the 2009 Engine and I bit the bullet and purchased a 75HP. Would have liked to have gone to a 90HP which is same size but the Admiral said the budget could not stretch that far  Have just tried it out for a few days at Paynesville...

Re: Australian Marine Insurance Query

Try a mob called Professional Insurance Brokers, they are in Monbulk in Melbourne but the insure boats from all over the country, my X is valued at $30k and that allows me 20% additional so up to $36k. I have claimed before when our Sunmaid got hit by storm debris and did $4.5k damage, it was the e...

Best Prop for ETEC 75

Hi, Has anyone had experience with an ETEC 75 on a :macm: as to what Prop works best. By Best I do not mean top speed but plenty of grunt at the lowend and decent reverse thrust for mooring under breezy conditions?

Re: Your Moderator is coming to Australia in June/July...

Sorry I am going to miss you. We live just outside of Sydney but we will be in Europe and the Baltic at that time. Not sure how many Macs we have around Sydney. Most are in QLD and down South I think. You should be here for our election.

Enjoy our great country.

Australian Marine Insurance Query

Having just had to deal with marine insurance matters I have been reminded again that these days it is up to the "insured" to ensure (forgive the pun :D ) that they select a fair market value for their boat and have the premium adjusted accordingly. If you look at Macs for sale online in A...

Re: Mainsail won't fully raise - why?

The most common reason is that the mainsheet is on too tight and holds the boom down but I am sure you would have noticed that. A tight boom vang can also do that if you have one. Short of that have you checked the channel at the top end of the mast?? If not then I would think that the sail is not c...

Re: Stolen Engine

Gee some people have a nerve, stealing a 60Hp, I mean its not just a small kicker you can wack in your boot, I would think well in excess of 100Kg so they must of had lifting gear or maybe thats why the cover got broken, because they couldnt lift it. We have had a couple of break ins at the local b...
