Re: MacGregor Spring Break Meetup 2024

Thanks for your reply. I won't be able to make it this year, but am planning a trip down there next year in late April to early May. Did the park give you any idea on how far in advance one needs to make the reservations?

If you zoom in on this picture, you can see my split backstay arrangement.

Re: MacGregor Spring Break Meetup 2024

Slips? no cost?? sounds like a great deal. Where is the marina there? I stayed there 10 years ago and there was only tying up to the concrete bulkhead in the park basin, and there was a charge. Are you able to leave your tow rig parked there?

Re: Moving the forestay chain plate.

This is how I moved and replaced my forward chain plate (V25 but similar to a 26). A piece of ss flat stock, some bolts and a little epoxy work. Pretty easy. https://forums.sailboatowners.com/media/new-stem-fitting.10925/full?d=1443911556 https://forums.sailboatowners.com/media/stem-fitting-and-led-...

Re: BWY's "Big Jib" and Rolly Tasker Lite Skin sails mod review

I did that rig modification ( larger fore triangle) to my V25 ten years ago. J24 headsails will fit, allowing for an endless supply of "slightly used" racing sails. The single best modification I did to that boat.

Re: Rub rail replacement for 1985 Mac 25

All those "little nuts and bolts" also hold the deck to the hull. It would be a huge job to remove all the alum extrusion, not to mention expensive. If you do it, it would be a good time to reseal the deck/hull joint. I have read some accounts of others having difficulties getting the two ...

Are you looking for the rubber strip or the actual aluminum extrusion?

Florida Keys trip 2019

Here are afew short videos from my trip down to the upper Keys in April. My 3rd trip down from Maryland in 6 years. I think the Keys are the perfect place to sail a MacGregor!

Re: Add ballast

I added a bag of sand under the v-berth for extra weight to pound through waves better. One could also put weight under the liner above and next to the keel trunk. Also, there should be a hose on your keel cable "guide" to keep water out when heeled over. https://forums.sailboatowners.com/...

Re: Bending the mast

Is your backstay adjustable? most Macs aren't. Do you have a boom vang or Cunningham? Also, is your luff tensioned enough?

Re: Gap in main hatch

I fold up afew paper rags into about a 6" square, pull the hatch rearward past the companionway hatch, place a square in each corner, then slide hatch back to where it belongs to lock up boat. If it rains, they get wet, but stay in place and make a nice seal. Keeps the bees and other bugs from ...

Then use butyl tape as the seal between the port frame and the boat.

Re: 1985 Mac 25 hull thickness

Mac hulls are definitely not cored. The hull under the V-berth does get thicker the closer you get to the bottom of the "V". I have my depth transducer mounted about a foot up the starboard side from the bottom of the "V", directly under the access hatch in the rear of the V-berth.
